With its tuffeau stone walls and grey slate roof topped by soft pink brick chimneys, Le Bignon is typical of manor houses built in the region in the second half of the eighteenth century. 
Convenient for ferry ports (Caen 2.5 hours), low cost flights and TGV (Angers 10 minutes, Tours and Nantes 75 minutes), Le Bignon rests in 4 acres of peaceful grounds, including a heated swimming pool, providing immediate relaxation with quality home comforts. And yet it is within easy reach of major chateaux, vineyards, the historic centres of Angers, Fontevraud and Tours and the magical town of Saumur, offering a holiday to remember. 
Or why not combine a relaxing stay at Le Bignon with a trip to Paris - just 90 minutes by high speed tain from Angers or a 2.5 hour drive..  
Vine House is a wing of the Manor which we believe was originally the kitchens and coach house, now restored and converted to a self contained holiday home for six people. The name Vine House comes from the wonderful dessert grape vine framing the front of the property. Private parking is provided on the forecourt and you can, of course, drive right to the front door for unloading when you arrive. 
 
If you need to check your emails, a laptop with complimentary broadband internet access is located in the Entrance Hall of the manor house. 
 
The ground floor with it's original terracotta floor-tiles and beamed ceiling, divides naturally into a cosy sitting area and a country style kitchen and dining area. 
The sitting area is dominated by the original monumental stone fireplace with a period cast iron fire-back. Grouped around the fireplace are generous comfy sofas, in soft terracotta and blue, perfect for relaxing. Curl up with a drink, take your pick from the selection of games, books, cds, dvds, listen to your own music on the iPod docking station or enjoy English Freeview tv. A door leads from here directly onto the terrace which faces the pool (fully alarmed in accordance with the French Pool Safety Regulations) and has outdoor dining and lounging furniture and a barbeque. 
 
At the other end of the room is the superbly equipped kitchen area (refurbished April 2008) with cooker, microwave, fridge and dishwasher and plenty of crockery, glasses etc. All the kitchen equipment including the knives has been chosen by the cook, for quality not economy. The large dining table comfortably seats six with ample space for a high chair.  
For those evenings when you might enjoy being catered for, the baby/child monitor provided works between Vine House and the Manor Dining Room allowing you to relax over dinner.. 
 
For convenience, there is a large ground floor shower room with walk-in shower (refurbished April 2008), w.c. and wash basin as well as your own washing machine. (A rotary washing line is at your disposal located behind the old stables). 
 
The staircase (with stair-gate fitted) leads up into the spacious pretty beamed attic where you will find three double bedrooms and a bath/shower room. All rooms have exposed beams and natural floor covering and are furnished in country style with built in wardrobe and chest of drawers so you can unpack properly, bed-side tables with reading lights, a dressing table and chair, hairdryer, wonderfully comfortable beds with Egyptian cotton bedlinen, soft and firm pillows and Egyptian cotton towels and dressing gowns. 
 
At the end of the landing, The Pink Room has a half height window with a balustrade and views over the lane and the fields and offers either twin beds or a super-king. Next door is the pretty Bathroom with wc, basin, bath and overhead shower (new bath and shower installed April 2008). The other side of the bathroom is The Pumpkin Room with a cosy window seat and a king size bed. Finally, at the top of the stairs, The Jade Room is the largest room and once again offers either twin beds or a super-king with ample room for a cot.

We request a deposit of 20% to confirm a booking with the balance payable 8 weeks prior to arrival. Payment can be made by sterling cheque, credit card (3% handling fee)or debit card, by direct bank transfer, French bank cheque or euro denomination travellers' cheques. Rates are fully inclusive of heating and utilities, Egyptian cotton bed linen, personal towels, towelling bathrobes, pool towels and household linens. A welcome basket with a selection of goodies and a bottle of wine is provided. We do not charge a breakage deposit and prefer to discuss any breakages or accidental damage personally. Cancellations: before due date for payment, forfeit of deposit. After due date for payment, forfeit of full rental unless Vine House can be re-let in which case the balance will be returned minus a 10% re-advertising fee.
