Vacation Rental Description
La Maison Neuve is a carefully restored, early 19th century cottage nestled on 3 hectares. Enjoy privacy and tranquility, yet be close to shopping, restaurants, wine tasting and sight seeing. This lovely, farmhouse accommodates 2 couples or a family of 5 comfortably, but also makes a magical getaway for two!
The cottage is furnished with antiques but doesn't skimp on creature comforts:
Two bedrooms, one furnished with an extra large double, and the other with a double and a single bed, provide privacy for either families or couples. Both bedrooms also have sitting alcoves.
The modern bath suite includes a spacious shower, double sinks, deep soaking tub and toilet. The property boasts its own large, private pond, and a lovely patio for relaxation and dining al fresco.
A few steps away is a nice-sized pool, which is next to a building with a changing room including toilet and shower. The spacious kitchen has every every convenience for gourmet cooking.
Outside, walk through the field to our 2-acre pond and try your hand - the pond is stocked with 3 species of carp, and waterfowl abound. Amble or bike down the forest paths abutting the property. Laze on the patio or by the pool. The Loire region is a great place for siteseeing or just settling in and relaxing, and La Maison Neuve is the perfect location to provide both!
Facilities
The property is gated and there is space for several vehicles inside the courtyard. There are several large rose gardens dotted around the property, as well as fruit trees - apple, peach, cherry and more - something is ripe no matter what time you come July through September. The cottage is on a rural lane with virtually no traffic.
Activities
Highlights of the area are many. The Cadre Noir resides at l'Ecole Nationale Equestrian just outside of Saumur. You can tour the stables and see a demonstration of these beautiful horses and exemplary riders. Horse shows that draw international riders are run throughout the summer.
The area is dotted with limestone troglodyte caves dug into the hillsides, or buried under the earth. Some are available for tour. Many house the wineries' caves. Still others grow the champignons (mushrooms) that supply Paris restaurants.
The Saturday market in Saumur is not to be missed! For sale are everything from oysters to the latest Parisien styles. There are restaurants in Saumur for every taste, from simple bistros to romantic gourmet.
For the younger crowd: Futurescope; the famous Doue Zoo as well as one in Le Fleche, which also has a beautiful chateau; the Armored Tank Museum; the Auto Museum and Mushroom Museum, and more!

Marty and I purchased our 8+ acre French retreat in late 2006. Our dream is to retire at La Maison Neuve in the future, and we vacation there as often as we can. Each time we add more touches combining comfort with French country charm. Thus, you will find the cottage elegantly comfortable with a well-stocked, gourmet country kitchen, and huge bathroom with a piping hot shower and soaking tub that I, for one, can't resist! The bedrooms and salon will not disappoint, either! I am delighted to say that, in our few years as innkeepers, we've already had repeat guests. Venez mes amis!
