Chantal DUVIVIER is delighted to welcome you in her historic manor house, in the heart of the of VILLEFAGNAN village (birth place of her anscestors)in the centre of the Poitou Charentes area in the south west of France.
Names of famous musicians have been given to all our bedrooms,like a soft note to an harmonious decor.
Le Logis des Tours is a listed building and in the XV and XVIth centuries was the bishop of Poitiers summer ’s residence, a château at the time. The future king of France, Henri IV, king of the Navarre kingdom, stayed as a guest in 1536 with his troups.
The French revolution left its marks as it did with many buildings owned by the catholic church ;the château was burnt ,its land was sold... but in 1801 period of its reconstruction and Le Logis des Tours became alive once more, retaining many of its prior architectural characteristics especially its lovely imposing 2 towers framing majestically the entrance porch as you enter the estate.
As years went by, with such an historic past, combined with tremendous character Le Logis des Tours lent itself to become a very special « Guest house of Charm » selected as such by the Gites de France label.
- Gardens : Ruffec area has a large choice of theme gardens, fushias, perrenials, medieval gardens, surprise gardens at Echoisy, Mansle, Montjean, Nanteuil, St Fraigne and Tusson.
- Bayers and its chateau : this small medieval village prides itself with a norman castle right above the charente valley, lived in by its proprietors, and open to public visits.
Nanteuil en Vallée : a picturesque village with its ancient abbey remains, its medieval houses and meandering lanes, its small museum ,its lovely walk passing by a quaint stream and interesting park.
- Tusson : another picturesque listed village for the beauty of its architecture, its monastic gardens with medicinal squares situated in an old convent, and near a restaured XVI th century logis used for artist’s exhibition and also old furniture display. Lovely gardens and path along this restaured village.
- Verteuil sur Charente : full of charm, this medieval villages hosts a splendid château on the Charente river’s verge. The medeval church possesses a very beautiful terracota pieta.
- Villefagnan : a museum with a collection of rural art, a restaured windmill and 2 listed buidings Le Logis des Tours and the Protestant church. Private pool to its customers, you may bathe in the lake outside the village.
