The Midi-Pyrénées has an immense historical heritage and you find old castles and fortifications all around. Some of them have been restored and are open to the public. Every day of the week there is a market in one of the villages offering local produces. During the season, every Saturday a "fete" (festival) is held in one of the nearby villages, giving you a taste of French life with local food specialities and the typical French "musette". Programmes are available in the gite.
Because of it's spaciousness and vast number of small roads through meadows and forests, this is superb walking and riding country. Fishermen can go fly fishing in the Viaur or the Aveyron - license required.
Bird watchers have a great time wathing hoopoes - a couple nests nearby every year - golden orioles (you'd have to be lucky, but you do hear them)or young kestrels learning how to fly.
At night the sky is star riddled - a rare sight nowadays.
