The chalet is just five minutes from the main lifts of the Tourmalet (Bareges/La Mongie) ski resort - the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees with over 100km of pistes and modern lift and snow making systems. Ski home to the village on a pretty green run following the river, or a blue piste through broad-leafed woodland. Bareges is a small friendly village with all amenities, restuarants, lively bars and a cinema. Bareges is also renowned for being the highest thermal spa town in France, with a natural thermal spring which is open to skiers to relax in after a hard day on the slopes. The Tourmalet resort has skiing for all abilities and is great for families as there are two excellent ski schools. There is also extensive off piste skiing including the legendary 1000m descent from the Pic du Midi, and countless wonderful ski touring itineraries in the Pyrenees National Park and the Neouvielle Nature Reserve.
Also closeby is the pilgrimage town of Lourdes, and the UNESCO world heritage site - the "Cirque de Gavarnie". This area of the Pyrenees offers some of the best walking, cycling and mountain biking itineraries. We are situated on the Tour de France route and ideally located for a huge variety of mountain adventure sports including canyoning, caving, via ferrata, white water rafting, climbing and paragliding.
