Vacation Rental Description
L'Ancienne Boulangerie is an enchanting former bake house situated in the 2-acre grounds of our Gascon farmhouse, where we live with our family and small menagerie. The Boulangerie was built of local white stone in 1821 and was used to mill and bake bread for the community. A large bread oven remains, as does the mill stone.
The rose-covered cottage is spacious and well-equipped. It is furnished to a very high standard, with new beds and crisp white linen. We have aimed to create an atmosphere of timeless French charm, coupled with all modern conveniences.
Downstairs a stable-door opens onto a large hallway with shower room and wc and a wide, wooden staircase up to the first floor. To the rear are huge wooden doors which lead onto the garden. The open-plan living area has exposed stone walls, perfect for keeping the property cool in the heat of the summer months. There is a large Gascon fireplace, fitted with an attractive woodburner for cool evenings out of season. The furnishings are tasteful and comfortable. The dining area has an elegant French dining table with quality linen and crockery. The kitchen area is compact but well equipped with the keen cook in mind. There is a dvd/video player and a very large selection of films for all ages. We also have an eclectic selection of books for all tastes, as well as music CDs/cassettes and audio books.
Upstairs is the romantic master bedroom with luxurious extra-wide bed with beautiful linen. There are two windows with views over to the distant village and to the rear over the gardens. There is a pretty metal day bed which could be used for a younger child. A door leads to the ensuite bathroom, with claw foot bath and window seat looking out over the gardens.
Up a narrow wooden staircase (not suitable for elderly or very young guests) to the second bedroom under the eaves, with two single wooden sleigh beds (2 extra beds available). A door in this bedroom leads to a small washroom with WC and basin. There is also a play area with a large selection of books, games and videos. An airconditioning unit is located here for the warmer summer nights.
Outide are several terraces for eating and sunbathing. The swimming pool (shared with the owners, but in practice, usually available for guests' sole use) measures 10x4m and is 1m50 deep all over.It has a security alarm, but no fencing at all. We therefore prefer not to let to parties with young, non-swimmers.
The garden area to the rear of the cottage has a small vegetable/herb garden for guests' own use, and eggs from our free-range hens are usually available. A bbq is provided. There are sunloungers, parasols and two sets of tables and chairs for guests' use.
For entertainment there is a giant trampoline with safety net, table tennis, badminton, boules, table football and adult bicycles (including child seat).
Attached to the cottage is a small barn, where the games equipment is stored, as well as the washing machine and cleaning equipment.
For guests who would like a rest from cooking, particularly on the day of arrival, we can provide a 4-course meal with drinks and coffee for 20 euros a head for 12s and over and 15 euros for 5-11s. Takeaway dinners are also available (eg homemade pizza, beef bourguignon, paella).
A small welcome pack is provided but we can arrange to do a more substantial shop for you if required.
