Vacation Rental Description
Les Noyers (named after the walnut tree in the garden) is a very quiet, south facing, single storey, stone-built house with spectacular long-distance views of the Pyrenees and the surrounding countryside. It is situated in a small, very peaceful hamlet immediately adjacent to a small, equally tranquil village.

It has two bedrooms each with double beds, two bathrooms, a sitting room and a fully equipped kitchen. With the pull-out sofa in the sitting room, the house sleeps six, but it is more suitable for four people.

The house is not on the phone, but mobile (or cell) phones work from inside the house. There is a public phone box in the village. No coins. A France Telecom or other card is necessary, enabling direct dialling.

Wi-fi is rumoured to be coming to the village soon.

Facilities

It has two bedrooms, each with double beds. One of the bedrooms has a connecting bathroom and large shower. Off the boot room there is a sink, second shower and lavatory. There is also a washing machine. Next to the new kitchen/dining area there is a sitting room, with a hi-fi and record player for vinyl disks, and a selection of books. There is a CD player in the kitchen and a wood-burning fire/stove. Electric wall heaters are in every room. There is no television. By using the put-u-up sofa in the sitting room it sleeps six. Garden table and chairs, loungers, parasol, two bicycles and also a charcoal bar-b-q are provided. The house has been fully renovated, with entirely new heating, plumbing and electric circuits throughout. Parking for 2-3 cars is provided.

  • Travel Info: In the Gers (32) Department of the Midi-Pyrenees Region in South West France, 90km (55 miles) north west of Toulouse, 150km (95 miles) south east of Bordeaux, mid-way between the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts. The area is also known as Gascony. Agen (20 km north) which has a TVG rail station and good motorway connections, and Condom (12 km east) are two larger towns within easy reach. Spectacular and unspoilt. In fact many people says it's the best thing about staying at Les Noyers. On a clear day the Pyrennes mountains are visible. The surrounding countryside is gently-undulating arable land producing in great profusion cereals and sunflowers. Attached to the house is a garden, with a newly laid lawn and flower beds. In front of the house is a field (belonging to the property) in the care of a neighbour and to the side a small copse (also part of the property.)

Almost total privacy is guaranteed. In season deer can be seen in the fields and birds of prey/raptors are very much in evidence.

Walking is about the most energetic pastime, although there is a swimming pool in Lectoure – and there's always the tennis/basket ball court in the hamlet!

Why do I like Morocco? The openness of this nearby, friendly Islamic country (home to Berbers and Arabs), the unspoilt gracefulness of its people and landscape, its excellent wines and varied cultures were simply irresistible. To say nothing of its art and architecture, of which the riad is a modest example. I still can't believe my luck! Why not see if you agree with me? The riad is home for me when in Marrakesh (my main home is in London). It is a delightful alternative to identikit and impersonal hotels. It is proving to be a very popular destination for those looking for a family-friendly and private holiday, backed-up with personal service from me. The riad is spacious and ideal for those wanting a quiet holiday - within easy reach of mountains and coast - only 3 hours from London.

You will be both as close to and as far away from the centre of life in the heart of Marrakesh as you wish. Leave the riad and immediately enter the earthiness, vibrancy and colours of a world that has been largely unaltered for hundreds of years; return and you are in an oasis of authentic, tasteful tranquility where you do exactly what you want, when you want it, secure in a safe, quiet home surrounded by all you need. Eat in, or eat out. Drink sweet tea, admirable local wine or smoothies made from the wide variety of local fruits. Ask Abdellah to arrange a massage or tour or carhire. Visit a hamman (like a Turkish bath). Curl up and watch DVD's, listen to CD's, read (there is a small library) or plan an excursion. The feedback consistently says I have been very lucky to attract such a good, amiable manager in Abdellah.
