Vacation Rental Description

The cottage stands in its own south facing garden which runs down to the pool and river. A south facing balcony on the front of the cottage is accessed via french doors from the lounge. The balcony has an electric sun shade which can be rolled out when it is really hot... The perfect place to spend your evenings watching the sun descend behind the mountains.

A very large porch (which is ideal for storing coats and boots) leads in to the lounge which is approx 4.5 meters by 5 metres. The lounge has a comfy settee which converts into a double bed, tile and sisal flooring, television (for playing dvds only), DVD/CD player, free wireless internet. There is a separate kitchen with cooker, hob, sink and fridge.

The cottage has recently been refurbished to a high standard and makes a perfect hideaway in the mountains. Please see our La Hasta website for lots more information and photos.

The gite provides the perfect location to enjoy the variety of activities available in the area. These range from cycling, thermal springs, rock climbing, canoeing, water-skiing and hiking through to many winter sports. Given the beautiful landscape with its mountains and lakes you are surrounded by nature and wildlife. While walking you can experience the magnificent Pyrenean flowers and butterflies as well as catch sight of marmots and vultures. Our area often hosts stages of the Tour de France but for cyclists keen on lesser gradients there are many lovely valleys to explore with mountain bike and road bike hire readily available. The area is well known for its caves such as Niaux which has world renowned prehistoric cave paintings. There are many castles to explore, some linked to the Cathar religion such as Montsegur and Roquefixade. And no visit would be complete without sampling the wonderful local cuisine and markets.

Nearest Town : Tarascon-sur-Ariege at 4 kilometers distance
Travel Info: The nearest airports are Carcassonne and Toulouse... both are just over an hour away by car. Many of our guests chooses to arrive by train... Either from Toulouse airport using the shuttle bus to the city train station or by taking the fast TGV service from Paris to Toulouse... From where it is possible catch a connecting train to either Foix or Tarascon-sur-Ariege.

A super spot; thanks very much for the comfortable cottage and the fine outlook from the verandah. The autumn colours have been lovely; the occasional snow on the hills picturesque and the Ariege is great. Superb walking country, varied and interesting.

Fantastic well equipped cottage, stunning scenery and a swimming pool... What more could you ask for. We have enjoyed walks in the mountains, a visit to a cave, the Prehistoric Park and dining out at La Table de la Ramade (highly recommended). Not to mention cycling over mountain roads and watching the Tour de France from the roadside. We had a brilliant holiday!

Lovely cottage in a beautiful location. Enjoyed great walks in fantastic scenery, after which the comfortable bed was especially welcome!

As well as being a keen climber and mountaineer, Sam is also a qualified Iyengar Yoga teacher, holistic massage therapist and accomplished musician.

Helen is a keen traveller and has lived and worked all over the world... We both enjoy cycling and skiing in our new-found mountain home.
