Le Moulin de la Materette is a substantially built old mill converted to a very high standard. It has seven double rooms each with private facilities, a well equipped new kitchen and vast living room. The mill is set into five acres of beautiful garden and woodland, four hundred metres of trout stream; a haven of wildlife and tranquility. You can enjoy the natural surroundings to relax by the beautiful large pool with stone flagged surround. Beyond the pool is a Badminton court and pool side bar with its pergola and flagged surround to give you a semi-shaded area to enjoy a drink at lunchtime. In front of the mill is a large tiled open conservatory ideal for eating or relaxing, shaded in the heat of the day, but in sunshine for mornings and evenings. In front of the terrace you can enjoy the croquet lawn and boules pitch.
There are a good choice of restaurants close by. Also, there are always one hundred plus bottles of chateau wine held in stock at modest cost.

Set midway between Foix and St. Girons, in arguably the most beautiful part of France. The location enjoys the benefits of beauty, history and amazing facilities. Nearby are a pony trekking centre, a championship golf course, lake swimming and various Cathar castles, amidst the spectacular Pyrenees mountain range.

20 metres to the East of the Moulin is the recently converted Grange. The convertion has successfully combined the ancient collombage (Oak timber framed) with a modern timber cladding. Reroofed and insulated to a high standard. The Grange provides 4 more en suite double rooms on the Ist & second floor. in addittion it houses the large light filled studio /gallery (Used for our art and photography courses) On the ground floor are our Woodturning and Woodworking workshops plus a large laundry.

Wine Cellar/ Welcome Pack.
We provide a bottle per person per week of chateau wine along with the same number of bottles of beer in the fridge. We always have available 200 plus bottles available for purchase. Many blended by the owner. Including Merlot, An AOC Grenache Noir/ Syrah Mix, 2 blends of Rose, Chardonnay and a Chardonnay/Sauvignon Blanc blend.

Wild Life
A haven for lovers of wild life. With regular visit of Kingfishers, Dippers, Nuthatches, Tree Creepers, Wagtails, Finches, Owls, Tits etc. even the occasional Golden Oriel. Plus overhead the Buzzards, Kites and Eagles.
Deer, Sanglier, Pine Martins, Squirrels, Foxes, Badgers are never that far away. Various rare wild flowers including Bee Orchids.

Bikes.
We have 6 bikes and safety helmets available. Bike rides to suit all standards, but avoid wearing yellow jerseys, as the Tour du France usually passes close by in July!

Wedding Parties
We can accommodate 24 in the Moulin and Grange plus a similar number on a B & B basis in a friend's Chateau nearby. We have the crockery, Cutlery and Glasses and staff to feed a party of 46 on the Terrace, overlooking the croquet lawn and garden, covered but in the open.

Golfing Parties.
We can cater for groups of 14 - 20 golfers in April & October when the weather is warm and the footing firm.

Courses.
We run residential courses in Painting, Wood Turning,Digital Photography, Creative Writing & Textile Art. In the Mid Season. The courses combine a 6 day holiday with 5 half days of tuition. The perfect blend of inspiration and relaxation. Combination courses where one partner wood turns whilst the other paints or photographs have proved very popular. Partners can be purely residential and chill out instead of attending tuition. In any event you get together with your partners for half the day to enjoy the spectacular surroundings or the facilities the Moulin offers.

The Garden. An attractive mix of formal gardens, orchards, flower beds and raised vegetable beds, all automatically irrigated with a sprinkler system to keep it lush even in the hieght of summer. There are also woodland walks through natural flower meadows, by the river, and exquisite spot to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. The Rooms. The Moulin is full of the personal effects of the owners, Nick & Fran Davidson. Including antiques, paintings, and a large library on the 1st floor landing. We hope you enjoy and respect these. Pool Area A superb pool complex includes a 13 m heated pool, a hacienda pool bar with pergola to give semi shade in the middle of the day. Badminton Court, Table Tennis, a 10ft Chess Board all surrounded by lawns and flower beds. The pool is openned, checked & cleaned daily to keep in pristine condition.

Other Activities:

Forges de Pyrennes: Well organised working exhibition of old arts and crafts of the Ariege - Approx 2 hours to go round. There is a café. Carla Bayle: Hilltop artists town with Summer Exhibition July August. Go through Mas d'Azil, then straight across the crossroads at Sabarat and you will see it signposted. Wonderful views of the Pyrenees.. Fetes: There are fetes happening all over the Ariege every week through the summer. Go to the tourist information centre at the Bastide de serou for details. This is one of the best information centre in the Ariege.
