Vacation Rental Description
La Moriniere is located at the base of the Cherbourg Peninsula, close to St Lo and the Atlantic Coast. It is easily accessible from the main road network, High Speed Rail from Paris, and from Cross Channel Ferries to Cherbourg and Caen Ouistreham.
The house is set in a commanding position within its own extensive grounds and was built in the early X1X Century in the style of a substantial "Maison de Maitre." All accommodation has been refurbished and updated (2006), to a very high standard, whilst retaining the features and character of a house of the period.
ACCOMMODATION:
All the accommodation is extremely spacious and stylishly furnished. We take pride in our linens and attention to detail.
There are three bedrooms available for letting in the main house, one king, one twin and one single. Each has private shower, bath and WC.
There is a Sitting room/Conservatory and Dining room on the lower floor. Breakfast is extensive and includes fresh breads and croissants, Homemade jams and cereals, yoghurt, fruits, cheeses, eggs and cold cuts.
The 300 year old Stable block consists of two bedrooms. One king with en suite shower/WC, and one Twin room with en suite shower/WC. There is a large private sitting room with woodburning stove, Kitchen/Diner and a private garden with garden furniture.
(The stables are also available as a self catering Gite for periods of a week or more.)
"At Home" with Graham and Lesley Hollands: La Moriniere is a family home. Your hosts, Major General Graham Hollands and Lesley have spent much of their lives in Europe and Africa with the British Army. Graham is a keen golfer and Military Historian. Lesley is devoted to developing her garden and her kitchen. Between them they speak French, German and English.
Also within easy reach: The Bayeux Tapestry and Cathedral and Mont St Michel, both of which can be guided if clients wish. Local Markets and Restaurants in St Lo, Coutances and on the Atlantic Coast. Golf at Granville, Coutances, OMAHA Beach and Perriers. Day trips by Fast Train to Paris (two hours 30 Minutes). Sea Fishing. Day Trips to the English Channel Islands. Calvados tastings can be arranged.
BATTLEFIELD TOURS:
La Moriniere is ideally suited for tours of the D-Day Landing sites and the Battle for Normandy. Graham Hollands, a retired British Army Major General is an experienced Battlefield Historian who lectures regularly on the Queen Mary II, and has appeared on the Discovery Channel, and Radio as an expert commentator on the "Battle of Normandy".
