Vacation Rental Description

The Barley Mill is a restored watermill available for weekly or (off season) week end rental in the park of the listed manor of Dur-Ecu (16th c.). Located just 300 metres from the beach… where the British navy landed in 1522.. and 1758 (trust the Admiralty for keeping good records), and with full view of the coast.

Facing the sea (at 300m), tastefully decorated.

Riding school/rental, sailing / kitesurf, windsurfing school/rental 20 mins walk away; 2 splendid swimming pools with sauna, jaccuzi 15 min drive away.
French channels only for TV. Bring your DVDs !

For city dwellers, Cherbourg is only 8 miles away offering colourful farmers markets, harbour side cafés and brasseries for local catch, night clubs and casino. The port is the main destination for yachtsmen sailing from England and going onto the Channel Islands. Walk in the medieval streets and find cute boutiques.

The ill fated Titanic made her first and last call at the Gare Maritime, at that time a luxury terminal for transatlantic liners . Now it houses a superb center dedicated to the underwater world complete with a best stocked aquarium and a huge, recently decommissioned nuclear submarine (without the nukes) that one can visit inside.

On the practical side, a few gigantic hypermarches offer excellent value and choice. The nearest one is 5 mins driving from the gite.

Action lovers will have plenty to do- parasailing, wind surfing, sailing, all within 15minutes walk. Choose to ride on the kilometers long beach or along the hedges typical of the Normandy country side.

Breathtaking cliff walks start right from the gite and will take you all around the Cap de la Hague peninsula. On the way, spectacular views , fishermen coves, tiny picturesque flower filled villages, France’s smallest harbour. Views on Alderney, Guernsey and Jersey and same weather, but with better price quality ratio for food and drinks !

Free visits, anytime, within 20 min drive:
Good temporary exhibitions of spectacular photographs next to a renovated farm-manor at Ferme du Tourp.
An outstanding collection of all types of sundials around the Ludiver planetarium.

1 to 2 hours drive away: The D Day landing beaches, the Bayeux Queen Mathilde Tell of the Conquest tapistry, all about England's last invasion. The world class (we are dead serious about it!) nature and culture site Mont Saint Michel.

Activities near Cherbourg

Great spots nearby for kitesurf, windsurf, surf and paragliding. 2 Excellent swimming pools within 10 km.

Facilities in the House

Cable or Satellite Television, Cooking Utensils, Heating, Microwave, Parking, Refrigerator, TV, Washing Machine
The mill is on two levels and can sleep 2-3 people in comfort. One bedroom with a double bed (1m40 wide) + a child’s bed, separated by curtains. En suite bathroom with shower and toilet. Living room, CD, DVD reader, TV but with very bad reception, kitchen with microwave/classic oven, washing machine. Terrace facing the sea with garden furniture. 1.4km from shops and services.

The price includes water and electricity within the limit of 8 kWh per contracted night, kWh additional being charged at a rate of 0,13 €/kWh. We suggest a package of 30€ for 440 kwh /week for the heating season, that is usually adequate.

12 km West of Cherbourg and the ferries. Your gate to la Hague and Val de Saire. 20 minutes drive to Cherbourg with a wide choice of restaurants, bars, entertainment. Beautiful walks, short and long, from your doorstep.
