“We have really enjoyed our time here. The wine & bread on arrival were most welcome. The bikes were very useful to get around and to the lake where we enjoyed the water sports facilities. Overall a superb base for exploring this beautiful part of France. A well appointed and comfortable cottage.”

“Warm days & chilly nights so the fantastic log fire was put to good use! Too much to see in one visit so a return trip is a must. Thanks for an immaculate cottage and the welcome pack was very welcome.”

Enthusiastic and approachable at all times -we are here to ensure you have a great, relaxing holiday
After 10 years together we eventually married on New Years Eve 2003. As we had sold our schools equipment mail order business we travelled the world on many different types of holiday. Eventually, in 2007, we arrived in the Calvados Region of Normandy near a delightful market town of Vire. On our first visit to the area we stayed at La Clartiere. We were struck by the quiet, unhurried and calm atmosphere and were overwhemed by the friendly welcome we got from the French.
This area was badly affected in World War 2 and there is still a deep affection for the Allied forces for the liberation and the sacrifices they made. The region boasts a wealth of fine restaurants, mostly family run, where the food is prepared from first principles at very reasonable prices.
If you want to leave behind the stresses of modern day living for a quiet and peaceful location then this is the place for you. Within 5 miles, the market town of Vire offers all facilities with every shop you could possibly need and a bustling market each week. We were so struck by the area that we spent a day of the holiday with real estate agents! La Pelviniere is a 300 year old, stone, thatched cottage that was in need a a little TLC!!
We spent the next 18 months completely renovating it to a very high standard to highlight the original wood and stone features whilst ensuring that it benefited from all modern fixtures, furnishing and comforts demanded by todays travellers. We hope you like it.
Soon after buying La Pelviniere we also bought the cottage we stayed in originally, La Clartiere which needed very little updating and is now a regular repeat destination for our guests.
