Vacation Rental Description
Originally a pressoir for a local cider maker, the house itself dates back to the 1800's and is typical of the local Normandy 'Colombage' style, meaning timber frame.
The Gîte, which is newly refurbished, bright and sunny, adjoins the house and has it’s own separate entrance & private patio overlooking the beautiful garden. Children can roam freely and safely in an acre of parkland with swings, slide and wendy-house.
The ground floor has a well equipped kitchen and open diner/ lounge with a double bed settee. The shower room and separate toilet are also on the ground floor.
The bedroom upstairs is large and inviting, with a double bed and a single bed. There is a lovely view across the garden and open farmland beyond.
To throw open the windows and breathe the air on a spring morning is tranquility itself, with only the birds and the odd passing tractor for company.
Being on a plateau the cycling is great, with any number of twisty country lanes to explore, straight from the gite. Walking and getting close to nature is a good way to see the local area, spotting bird-life and maybe the odd deer, stopping at the local farm to buy some eggs and maybe watch the calves being fed.
10 minutes away the medieval town of Orbec is a popular stop-off for Parisiens and tourists alike, with it’s cobbled streets and timbered houses, always a charming atmosphere. As well as the weekly market, patisseries and fine restaurants of Orbec, other facilities include horse-riding, tennis or fishing.

Lisieux 18kms
With it’s main square staging many different fetes and markets throughout the year, Lisieux, capital of the Pays d’Auge, enjoys a rich variety of restaurants, theatre, cafes, shops and historical treasures.
The Basilica, with its breath-taking architecture, is a must for any visitor to the region and is the final resting place of St Theresa.
Born in the Calvados region in 1873 and dying in Lisieux at the tender age of 24, it was only after her death that the world discovered the incredible depth and beauty of Theresa Martin. Through her memoirs entitled ‘Story of a Soul’, the mystery of her inner life with God was posthumously revealed and Theresa was canonised in 1925. In Lisieux, the shrine of Saint Theresa today attracts pilgrims from all around the world and her book has been published in over 60 languages.
