St Laurent de Cerdans is a French Catalan village located in the heart of the Pyrenees. It is surrounded by stunning mountain terrain which can be explored by foot or bike directly from the door. It is built on an elevated open plateau and commands spectacular views of the Pyrenean mountain ranges. All facilities and amenities are in the village including bank, PO, bars, tennis court, mini supermarket, open-air swimming pool in July and August, and a cinema showing all latest movies. The local traditional festivals are very important to the Catalans, starting off with the raucous St Laurent Bear festival in february...to welcome and address the imminent arrival of spring. The Sardane, a Catalan sun dance is performed in full traditional costume followed by aperatifs. The village has large communal meals in the summer in which all may participate usually followed by live entertainment or disco. We are 10 mins from the Catalunya border to nearby Tapis and beautiful Macanet De Cabrenys, where you can sample Catalan cuisine and warm hospitality. Other activities include horse-riding; you can trek with your trusty steed in a guided group from Cavallespir, the local horse-riding farm: golf at Falgos resort (4km) with its health spa with a view and surrounding graded walks (it's an 18 hole course) or take a scenic walk around the outskirts or just relax in the health spa pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room after a work-out in the well equipped gym.
If you're a keen cyclist, off-road or touring, this is a fantastic location. There are miles of mountain tracks to explore the Pyrenees off-road, and mapped routes to try both sides of the border. This area is the training ground for the Tour-de-France athletes. We have basement space with separate entrance for bike storage.
We are 40 mins from the town of Ceret, with its artistic, French-bohemian atmosphere. Here you may visit its numerous street restaurants and bars, take in some historical and contemporary art at the Museum or the several small private galleries. Experience Ceret saturday morning market which takes over the whole town. You'll find local produce, fine wines, cheese, honeys, olives, a huge selection of charcutery and other artisanal produce.
The coast is 20 mins from Ceret where you'll find beaches of Argeles and le Racou. The historic Collioure is nearby, famous for its little narrow-street-galleries/studios and street artists. Here you can enjoy an ice cold muscat at the beach cafe overlooking the harbour and dine at one of the many top quality restaurants.
On the Catalunya side we are 40 mins from Figueres, birth place of Salvador Dali, and host to the Dali museum which he designed and finally came to rest. Here you can enjoy vibrant energy and boutiques or hang out on the Rambla and drink coffee or a cold beer.
20 mins from Figueres are the Mediterranean beaches of the Costa Brava if you fancy a dip or learn to scuba dive. Or you can take a boat and cruise around the headland of Cap De Creus.
Apartment:
The apartment is in an elevated position with a south-west facing private balcony. Facilities include microwave, combination gas/electric hob, oven, free wifi internet access, central heating, use of the washing machine. The fridge has a small, separate freezer. There's a dvd player and a large selection of dvds. The bedrooms each have twin beds and there's a single bed/settee if necessary. All bed linen is provided as are bath towels. These may be refreshed each week. The bedrooms look out onto the Place De St Antoni, with its font dated 1888, and horse chestnut tree providing much needed shade in the summer months. You will be offered complementary tea/coffee and a bottle of wine from the region to welcome you to our village.

Falgos golf resort: 18 holes, 4 km from St Laurent.
Shopping: a couple of bakeries where you can by fresh croissants and bread baked on the premises; a pork butcher; mini-supermarket with wide selection fresh meats and cheeses; saturday morning market you can buy fresh fish and produce from the nearby farm.
Hiking: the village tourist office can supply you with maps of local walks directly from the village.
Biking: explore the old loggers tracks which run for miles through the mountains.
Gym: well equipped gym at Falgos health spa.
Cinema: shows all the latest films and some french ones.
Horse-riding: Frank and Veronique will escort you on a trek through the mountains, feel the freedom of traveling on horseback.
Playground: with climbing apparatus, mini football/basketball court and tennis court.

February is the time for the infamous Bear Festival in St Laurent De Cerdans. This is the largest, most celebrated festival of the year and starts off the festival calender. Expect carnival chaos, costumes, merriment, music in the streets and a lively party atmosphere for 3 days.
