Canet was developed as a holiday resort from the turn of the 19th century. From this time, with its attractive villas, Canet quickly became the fashionable Mediterranean resort for the wealthy from Perpignan and Roussillon.
Today it retains an elegance and calmness above many of its Mediterranean neighbours. Promenading along Canet's beautiful manicured beaches with the backdrop of The Pyrenees and the view down to Spain is a summer evening custom for the locals and holidaymakers alike.
