Vacation Rental Description

Everyone who loves food and wine will enjoy the genuine warmth and enthusiastic hospitality of a retired profesional chef and his wife, Kevin and Maggie, now offering chambres d'hote (bed and breakfast) and self-catering accommodation on their catalan country property. The village of Espira de l'Agly is a 25 minute walk away. It has a bar, a restaurant, a Spar supermarket, post-office and bakery. There are at least 8 restaurants within an 8Km radius of Espira. This is an ideal base for exploring the vineyards of the Languedoc Roussillon, as well as the castles and gorges of the Cathar country. The Mediterrannean coastline is 20Km away and a little further south down the coast you will find, nestled in a bay, the old and picturesque port of Collioure, full of art galleries and colourful catalan fishing boats and beyond that across the border is the Costa Brava. Maggie and Kevin are always more than happy to accompany guests into Perpignan or to any of the numerous caves in the region. Gourmet dinners or summer buffets can be arranged with notice.

Mas de las Guilles stands in 6880m2 of grounds enclosed by mature conifer trees. The house was the family home of an award-winning baker (boulangerie). The bakery is still next door, 50 metres away, and is open every day in the summer from 8am until 7pm selling everything from fresh breads, cakes & fruit tarts to savoury breads and pizzas (ideal for picnics or snacks). There are two ensuite double bedrooms in the main house with a separate twin-bedded room (no ensuite) which is let as part of a family/group booking. The house has oil-fired central heating and fans in the bedrooms.

There are swings in the garden and plenty of room for light ball games for those who feel energetic and sun-loungers by the owner's 10mx5m swimming pool for those who just want to relax and soak up the sun. There is also a shaded seating area with a table and chairs for picnics.

La petite maison du jardin (for 2), as it's name suggests, is a little garden house and comprises one room with a kitchenette and a separate showr-room with WC and basin. There is a double bed (190cmx140cm) with bedside cabinets, a pine wardrobe, a table and 2 chairs. The kitchenette is fully-equipped with crockery and cutlery and has a 2-ringed gas hob, a sink, a refrigerator/freezer and a combined rill/oven. There is also a barbecue and a table and chairs outside for al fresco dining.

The 2 bedroomed courtyard studio/gite is in an annexe within the owner's resience and comprises a room with french doors which opens out onto a communal courtyard. This room has a 2 seater sofa, a kitchenette with a double gas hob, a large refrigerator with a separate 3-starred freezer, a combined microwave/oven and a table and chairs for dining. It leads through to a small room with an adult-sized bunk-bed. There is a 2nd bedroom with a double bed and a large fitted wardrobe. There is a window in each of the bedrooms which looks out onto the gardens. There is a separate luxury shower-room with WC and basin. The gite has it's own outside seating area with a table and chairs and a gas-fired barbecue. In summer ventilators are provided and there are radiators in each room. Rates for long-term and winter lets are negotiable.
