Vacation Rental Description
Les Rosiers is an old farmhouse built at the turn of the 19th Century with thick walls built with local materials and stones from the river. It stands in its own grounds of 3.5 acres with mountain views from the land with a variety of shrubs and trees; fruit, fig, walnut and hazelnut. It is approached by a private road, the D618, between Ceret and Maureillas, 1.5 km from the centre of Ceret. A lockable gate provides ample parking facilities next to the house. The parking area is surrounded by old large trees on one side and on others by rose bushes, mimosa trees and other shrubs and bushes. From the parking area sweeping steps lead down to a large railed terrace in front of the house with garden furniture, wooden garden bar, barbecue and pergola with wisteria. The dining room window can provide a very useful hatch to and from the barbecue area. Opposite to the terrace there is a storage area which provides ample space for bicycles, boating equipment and other bulky objects.
The terrace overlooks the land with its variety of trees and shrubs. Bird lovers can sit on this terrace and watch and listen to a variety of birds - comments in the visitors book confirms this statement. One shouldn't forget the sound of the cicadas and the occasional croaking of the frogs in the midday and evening which demonstrates the countrified nature of the property. There is an open area in front of the terrace which is ideal for children's and parents' play and which can be watched and supervised in comfort as well. The play area leads to a small avenue of willow trees next to running water where one can stroll and relax.
The front door opens to a hall with a Catalan-character log-burning fire. There is a marble hall table with information pack, instructions for appliances, useful local phone numbers, details of rubbish collection, and a visitors' comments book: we encourage visitors to state their views in the book to enable us to improve our service. Under the stairs there is a bookcase with books. The hall leads to an independent, well-equipped modern kitchen with breakfast table, chairs and a high chair. There is a large fridge freezer, electric coffee percolator, cafetiere, toaster, microwave, dish-washer, washing-machine and also a storage area for cleaning equipment separated from the kitchen by a rustic curtain. The sitting/dining room opens from the hall and has three sofas for relaxing, coffee table, standard light and dining facilities for eight with bar, sideboard and satellite TV - French and English channel. These facilities demonstrate the size of this room.
An open staircase leads to a landing with arm chair next to a window overooking the land. A rustic rug hangs behind the chair. This area gives access to the bathroom with large corner bath/shower over, other modern facilities including baby/changing table. Each bedroom opens from the landing. The master bedroom and second bedroom each have double beds, double wardrobes, bedside tables with lights, dressing tables and easy chairs. The third bedroom has bunk beds, single bed, double wardrobe and chest of drawes. All bedrooms are equipped with summer and winter weight covers. There are two portable cots available which can be used in any bedroom for family convenience. The most interesting feature of the three bedrooms are the stone walls which have been tastefully restored to their original character and at the same time demonstrate the nature of the building of the farmhouse. Two of the bedrooms have archway windows keeping their 'ancien' character; the ceilings are covered with timber but at the same time the original rustic beams show the age of the building.
Electric convector heaters provide adequate heating in the cold season.
Les Rosiers is within walking distance of Ceret centre, a natural waterfall and panoramic walking areas in close vicinity.
Facilities
There is a storage area at the end of the balcony suitable for storing bicycles, wind-surfing equipment, rowing, golf or skiing equipment, balls, toys etc. Some visitor shave found this storage area very useful.
Activities
There is a regular Saturday morning market and in high season an arts and crafts market Tuesday evenings.
A waterfall is withing walking distance of Les Rosiers with a natural pool below. There is a picturesque walk in the near vicinity of the property with trees and streams with fish leading to a nearby village. At the highest point of this walk one can see the Mediterranean on a sunny day.
One interesting and relaxing evening in Ceret is the 'Place des Neuf Jets' with a variety of restaurants with a fountain in the centre. Generally locals' and visitors' families have nostalgic evenings with a musical flavour.
There is a rugby stadium within walking distance of Les Rosiers; an arena and a swimming pool.
The Modern Art Museum displays a variety of well-known artists and holds regular exhibitions. There is Sardane dancing and many concerts during the summer.
The Devil's bridge and old walls shows Ceret's old Catalan character.

For Firm Booking: Part rental at time of booking between 20-50% of total rental cost. Six weeks prior to arrival: Total payment in addition to a refundable damage and breakagres deposit according to the nature of the party and length of stay. Cancellation charges would be determined by the time of cancellation, Naturally in unfortunate circumstances the cancellation fee can be waived. During the cold season,from mid October - end April, electricity charges will be according to the meter readings on arrival anfd departure which would be reduced from the deposit. Long winter rentals are £750 per month for rentals of one month or over.
