The apartment is on the ground floor of a detached villa set in a large established garden on the edge of a rustic unspoiled Catalan village near Ceret with excellent local amenities a 5 minute walk away. Garden furniture, hammocks and barbeque are provided. Nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees, it is an ideal base for mountain walking and cycling with the GR10 just outside the gate. Beaches, watersports and sailing are 20 minutes away on the Mediterranean coast at St Cyprien and Argeles Sur Mer and with the Spanish border 5 minutes away, Barcelona, Girona and the Costa Brava are all easily accessible. Skiing and wintersports approximately 1 hour away. For the less active, why not enjoy wine tasting at one of the many local Vineyards or visit the numerous markets & festivals in historic towns such as Ceret, Collioure and Elne or try the Thermal health & beauty spas, restaurants, casinos and bars. The apartment was renovated last year and is light and airy with amazing mountain views.
Villa Maureillas is the ideal base for a wide range of activities to suit just about everyone. The nearest town is Ceret, famous for its cherries, its modern art museum (which includes pieces by Picasso and Matisse) and its lively Saturday market. During the summer months there are festivals, music and street entertainment of every kind almost weekly in the local towns and villages. Swimming, cycling, watersports, tennis, thermal spas and other attractions including a waterpark are all available within a short distance.
There is a choice of airports within a two hour drive. Perpignan is 20 minutes away and Girona in Spain, 45 minutes drive. Further afield are Toulouse, Carcassonne, Montpellier and Barcelona (up to 2 hours). We are 4km from the A9 Motorway (Le Boulou exit) and detailed directions will be provided. Both Le Boulou and Perpignan are on the France RAIL (SNCF) network and Perpignan also has the high speed TGV rail service.
