Vacation Rental Description
Superb old Catalan Country House situated in the village of Caixas and set in one of the most beautiful valleys of the Roussillon with views down to sea and to hills. The country dining room seats 10 and in addition there is a south facing conservatory with seating for 10/12 people. There are 3 double bedded rooms and 5 single beds comfortably sleeping 11 people. THE POOL IS SHARED BY THE TWO HOUSES
The Garden House - calm and superb has views over the plain of the Roussillon and down to the sea. There is a large ensuite bedroom with draped 4 poster and French windows to your private terrace, a fully equipped kitchen and a sitting dining room, again with French windows onto the terrace. Outside on the terrace there is a BBQ.
The Mas (Country House) is one of a small cluster of buildings at the heart of the commune of Caixas. The church and the Mairie form the centre. Surrounding is the natural countryside of the region. Grass is a rarity here due to the general lack of rainfall so please do not anticipate lawns. The Mas however has a private area in which to dine outside and use the BBQ. The only other habitable building at the centre of Caixas is occupied by the shepherd and here at Caixas we have a small cottage industry producing superb fresh goats cheese - highly recommended. The nearest village shops are at 10 minutes (bakery, butchers and general store) these have village hours that I have never entirely mastered. Otherwise the larger supermarkets are at Thuir - 20 minutes - please think about shopping before arrival or allow time. Other than the village shops (Sunday am) all closes after 7.30 pm on Saturday. The little 'place' some metres away welcomes 2 mobile shops on thursday AM.
