Vacation Rental Description

Maison Jeanne D’Arc will suit those looking for a holiday within a friendly French community. The village is very pretty but remains somewhat undiscovered by the tourists who visit this beautiful part of France. It sits on a hill overlooking the Languedoc plain right down to The Mediterranean some 10 kilometres away. The village has its own bar/bistro serving superb lunches and evening tapas all at very good prices, the bistro welcomes families. There is also a general provisions shop and a post office, the next village, just 2 kms away has several shops, bars and restaurants as well as bakers and a very good butcher.
Maison Jeanne D’Arc is furnished to a high standard, the owner has taken great trouble to ensure that the typical French style is also of a standard to meet the exacting requirements of The British guest. The ground floor has a long entrance vestibule leading to a large sunny sitting room with comfortable sofas. French windows lead out from here to the garden and small pool (9ft by 9ft). Next to the sitting room is the large and well-equipped kitchen dining area with cooker, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, and microwave.
On the first floor there are two bedrooms, a twin and a double and a shower room with twin wash hand basins and w.c, there is also a laundry room with washing machine and tumble drier. On the second floor there are further double and twin bedrooms and another shower room with w.c.
The small rear garden is fully enclosed and private. There is a plunge pool and large BBQ area as well as sun beds and table and chairs for outside dining.

The property is in the village square (‘place’ in French). There is parking in the place and surrounding roads. One of the advantages of this property is that within a few minutes walk you can be in the village parc with tennis courts and a childrens play area or stroll up through the old ‘batiments’ and get a panoramic view of the Languedoc plain from the church. A tiny village perched on a hill, St. Pons de Mauchiens is a typical example of the "circulade" type villages dating back to the XI and XII centuries.
The area

Less than two minutes drive (30 minutes walk) takes you to St Pargoire another village with a several good restaurants, a bar, two bakeries, supermarket, chemist, and a really good butcher.
Just ten minutes drive away is Pezenas (right) a very pretty medieval town with an abundance of shops, cafes and restaurants. The centre is full of buildings dating back to the 16th & 17th centuries. There is also an excellent market on Saturday which provides an ideal opportunity to stock up on the wonderful regional delicacies, fresh salads and vegetables, meats, cheeses, seafood and of course the local wine. Take a stroll through the old town with its unique craft and clothes shops and finally stop at one (or two) of the many bars or bistros in the 'Place de 14th Juillet'.

You are perfectly placed for the Mediterranean; the nearest beaches can be reached in just 20 minutes. Close by is the holiday resort of Cap d'Agde (left). It has some 14 kilometres of fine beaches and many attractions for the children like 'Toonland' and the famous 'Aqua Park' with its giant flumes, water slides and wave machine as well as a super 'tots area' for the very young.
As well as beaches, there are beautiful lakes, mountains and gorges within one hours drive. The area has large numbers of medieval towns and villages to visit including Pezenas, St Guilhem-le-Desert (right) and the Cite of Carcassonne. Just over hours drive will take you to the heart of 'Cathar' country with its imposing castles and monastries such as Montsegur and Queribus. Plenty of activities are to be found near to us including golf, horse Riding, sailing, fishing and tennis. For the more adventurous the Spanish border can be reached in about 90 minutes and a further hour takes you to Barcelona.
