Vacation Rental Description

L’Orangier is located on a secure complex with a communal pool in the quiet village of Portiragnes-Plage. It is only a short walk from the village square with its local amenities, restaurants and bars. It is also ideally situated a 10 minute walk from the beautiful blue flag sandy beach, which being shallow, is very child friendly. The house is in a quiet and peaceful location, no high rise buildings, next to a nature reserve yet it is only a 15 minute drive from Beziers with its cathedral and shops.

The conservatory, with its glass sliding doors, opens fully onto the enclosed garden and patio area providing a safe environment for small children and allows guests to enjoy dining al fresco style with enough seating for eight people. Only a few doors down is the communal swimming pool (unheated), open mid-June to mid-September, and the house benefits from a private parking space directly outside. With a kingsize bed in the master ensuite bedroom (shower only), a further double and one twin room upstairs with shower room, it is ideal for families or groups of friends wanting to explore this wonderful area and have a relaxing holiday. There is also a comfortable sofabed in the lounge. Bed linen & towels are provided but guests must bring their own beach towels.

The Languedoc region borders the Mediterranean sea with its spectacular coastline, the Pyrenees mountain range and the fabulous Camargue, famous for its beautiful white wild horses. Languedoc-Roussillon boasts up to 300 days of sunshine each year, with warm and sunny weather starting in April lasting into October. Summers are hot and temperatures frequently reach 30C plus in July and August.

Montpellier, the capital of Languedoc-Roussillon, is the nearest city after Beziers and is a lively university town with botanical gardens, the largest pedestrianised square La Place de la Comédie, a 14th century cathedral. It is only a 45 minute drive away. For those wanting to take a trip to the vibrant city of Barcelona, it is easily reached by motorway in just over 3 hours.

How to get to Portiragnes-Plage:
Languedoc Roussillon has plenty of airports (see below, with approximate driving times) to choose from served by easyJet, Ryanair and British Airways. Béziers is the nearest airport, served seasonally by Ryanair several times a week. Montpellier is the next nearest being an easy 45 minute drive down the motorway.

A car , however, is recommended to fully appreciate what this lovely area has to offer. Both Hertz and Europcar have desks in Beziers, Montpellier, Carcassone, Perpignan and Toulouse airports.

Portiragnes-Plage has a local supermarket, boulangerie and various restaurants and bars in the village square and along the seafront. The sandy beach has various watersports on offer in the summer. The nearest hypermarket can be found at Villeneuve-les-Beziers, a short drive away. Beziers, famous for its fortress cathedral, offers the chance to taste & buy local wines from the "caves".

Things to see include mountains, lakes, rivers, ancient cities, market towns and cathedrals. World Heritage Sites in the area include Carcassonne - famous for its medieval walled city, the Canal du Midi - wonderful for long walks, cycling or boat trips, and the Pont du Gard - a three-tiered Roman aqueduct.

Visit Cap d'Agde for its harbour, sitting in one of the waterside bars and restaurants watching the world go by. This is also where you can find the nearest 18 hole golf course and theme parks including Aqualand and DinoLand.

L'Orangier - comfortable, child friendly luxury

We've rented many houses ourselves, some good, some not so good. Having bought L'Orangier, we wanted to recreate the good aspects with a home-from-home feeling, giving comfort with a bit of luxury. The house is fresh & bright, newly furnished a year ago with plenty of seating and co-ordinating fabrics. As we have a young family, we wanted to ensure it was a safe environment for them, providing them with all that they entail such as toys, cots etc. We also wanted to pass these benefits on to our guests, cutting down on the need to travel with heavy items. The kitchen is fully equipped to allow easy dining in and as the conservatory doors open fully, it provides a relaxing atmosphere to spend a warm summer's evening, especially if the kids are in bed!

There are however plenty of restaurants to choose from for a lovely meal out, in Portiragnes-Plage itself or a few miles up the road in Portiragnes Village and an exceptional restaurant at Villeneuve-les-Beziers.

The other thing we liked is the proximity to the beach which is literally a 10 minute walk so no need to drive and also the pool, great for a change of scene and a refreshing dip.

We'll be spending a few weeks ourselves there every summer for the foreseeable future and hope our children grow up with many happy memories of L'Orangier.
