Vacation Rental Description
Do you have an image of the southern France landscape that inspired the impressionist painters VanGogh and Cézanne? In this landscape are lush vineyards, red-tiled roofs and stone houses, lavender fields, fig and olive trees, profusions of sunflowers and red poppies everywhere, all under a luminous and cloudless sky.
If this image appeals to you, read on.
You might be the ideal tenants for our house.
Our very beautiful 200-year old house in Southern France, in the village of St. Césaire de Gauzignan, will be available for spring, summer and fall rental. It is completely rehabbed and fully equipped (towels, linen, dishwasher, washer, microwave, cable, VCR…) This 3000-square foot house with eastern, southern and western exposures has a living room, a dining room (including a “dough box” table that seats 14 and an open hearth fireplace), kitchen, indoor and outdoor terraces, a small garden, four bedrooms and two bathrooms. There is a king-sized bed in one room, a queen-sized bed in one and full-sized beds in the other two bedrooms. There is also a portable crib for a baby. The downstairs bathroom has a shower, the upstairs one a tub. There are 2-foot deep stone-walls between the rooms as well as on the exterior. Some of the interior walls are stone and some are white plaster. Most ceilings have the original beams, some of them 2 feet in circumference. The downstairs floors are traditional tile and the upstairs floors are wooden. There are more than 5000 books in English and French (literature, social science, a certain amount of “escape reading”) and three desks. The furnishings are antiques – a mixture of simple and not so simple ones, but very adequate, and most say, very charming.
The house itself is on the main square of a small 200-person village. The "Mairie" or city hall is across the square. The “one room” elementary school is across the street. Trucks come to the village every morning with produce, fresh bread, croissants, meat, cheese, fish etc. The village of St. Maurice de Cazevieille is less than 2 kilometers away and has a charming café, a grocery shop, a baker and a butcher. There is also a small hotel and 2 restaurants

The medieval town of Uzès, with its famous Saturday market and festivals, is a 20-minute drive. In the many cafes around the medieval market square, one can hear a wide variety of languages. Yet the area is quintessentially French; tourism is present but not obtrusive. A couple kilometers from Uzès, lies the 2000-year old Aqueduct “Le Pont du Gard”, where you can visit, picnic, kayak and/or swim. There are many wonderful swimming spots in the area in rivers, etc. within a few minutes drive.
The Camargue on the Mediterranean, famous for its white horses, bulls, pink flamingos, and beautiful beaches, is less than an hour away.
20 minutes away from Alès (a small town with markets on Mondays and Fridays), and about 45 minutes away from St. Jean du Gard, in the majestic Cevennes mountain-range.
