Unusual spacious old stone/beamed village house on the Provence/Languedoc border. Huge light & airy living space. Sleeps 6 in 3 double bedrooms, a further double bed on private mezzanine. 2 bathrooms, 1 shower room. Large fully equipped kitchen. 2 terraces (one private, south facing with panoramic views; one cool, shaded by vines & olive).Two balconies. Free Wifi. Garage sometimes available. Lots of character, space & privacy.

Fournes is a small working village, about 20 kms west of Avignon. Population 650. Its origins are mediaeval. It is sited on a small hillock quite close to the autoroute - our (southern) side of the hill is protected from sight & sound of it -surrounded by vineyards and ‘garrigue’. There are no tourists.
The house - once 4 dwellings - is not luxurious but it is comfortable, full of character, roomy and fun for those whom it suits. There is no air conditioning but with thick walls and a good through breeze it is generally very comfortable. Electric fans are available for heatwaves.
Ground floor: Large impressive entrance hall with palm trees, seating areas and wide stone staircase to mezzanine and main living area. Ensuite Bedroom/blue Bathroom with twin 3' beds, marble fireplace, basement balcony.
1st floor: huge L shaped open plan living space (comprising kitchen, dining and sitting areas) with large stone fireplace. Through antique swing doors to double/study bedroom. The stone bathroom is adjacent, on the mezzanine floor of the large entrance hall of the house. The cool shaded terrace and a south facing balcony are also on this floor. A further sleeping area is above the mezzanine in the main hall.
Top floor: study/bedroom with sofa bed & a separate shower unit. Sliding glass wall (double glazed) gives access to the top terrace with panoramic views.
Our private garage parking by arrangement (not always possible), or else municipal (free) car park close by.

Concerts held almost nightly in the surrounding area, many out of doors in Chateaux or other ancient sites. The renowned Avignon Festival is in July-August when the streets are filled, day and night, with musicians and performers of all sorts. Characteristic street markets, bull games in village streets, epic films & opera in Roman amphitheatres, wine tasting, excellent restaurants. History is everywhere.
