Bed and Breakfast in a 19th Century (1812) Maison de Maitre (Masters House)
Close to Avignon, Nimes, Arles, Pont du Gard and only ten minutes from the beautiful town of Uzes, capitol of the ancient Duchy.
This area of Provence is wonderful for those who love to walk; cycle; paint; canoe; swim shop or partake of the local culinary delights. Hill villages, chateaux and vineyards cover the landscape. We are an hour or so away from the Camargue, and the Cevennes, the Ardeche is only half an hour away, not to mention the rest of Provence. The mediaeval walled city of Avignon is nearby as are Orange, Nimes and Arles with their remarkably preserved Roman remains. Ten minutes away is the beautiful town of Uzes, an ancient Duchy much of which was built in the 15th. and 16th. Century and earlier. With its teeming side walk cafe, restaurants and shops, it hosts a Saturday Provencal market that must be amongst the most colourful and picturesque in Europe.
Les Marronniers has been our home since 1989, and after ten years of restoring it, we decided to open it up to a small number of paying guests. We thought about it a lot and were wondering how we would feel with strangers in our home. Then we realized that Les Marronniers has always been full of visitors. The difference was that they were family and friends. So we decided to think of our guests as friends coming to spend sometime with us.
This has worked very well, both for us and for our guests. More
importantly, many of our guests have become our friends. The real sign of happy visitors is that they come back - - and they do!
Les Marronniers has full central heating so it’s very comfortable throughout the year. The weather for the grape harvest in autumn is usually beautiful. The winters are frequently sunny and mild for the truffle fairs and the spring is fresh and green for the fruit blossoms. These are all great days for a leisurely lunch and maybe an extra glass or two of the local wine.
We hope to see you soon Les Marronniers.

Owner Location Comment
I first came to the area as a young man in 1965, fell in love with Uzes and the area, the weather, the smells, the rivers and the Pond Du Gard. It took many years before we could afford to have a holiday home in the area, once we got that like so many people the dream changed to living in France full time.
This is our second home in the area, a house with more space then we need, still what's wrong with space, a home we could never dream off owning in England, a home to enjoy in winter and summer, a heated swimming pool which I really enjoy and all in a small but beautiful village, yet close to Uzes and all the large towns in the area.
Owning a bed and breakfast was not something we never thought about or planned, just glad we had restored the house well and all the bedroomswere on-suite, plus we lived in an area with so much to offer our guests, that it seemed the natural thing to do.
