Vacation Rental Description

We are in a village called Capestang (population about 3,000) in Languedoc, which is on Le Canal de Midi. This village is well frequented by tourists but at the same time it has retained its original character and has not been spoiled by this. We are close to the beaches of the Mediterranean (25 minutes) and between the Massif Central and the Pyrenees. The main industry of the area is viticulture and there are now many fine wines to be had from this region. The climate is mostly hot in the summer, with pleasantly mild springs and autumns. The winters are shorter and relatively mild compared to the uk, usually about 10 degrees F warmer. The area has a tremendous historical heritage which dates back to pre-Roman times and is in the Cathar region. Our house is ideally situated for exploring the surrounding area. We find our house and the area very relaxing and and a great place to unwind. The locals are also very friendly. It makes an ideal base for exploring the local area.

Our house is stone built on 3 floors and described as a Maison de Village, meaning that it is a terraced house in a village and is typical of this area. It is comparatively cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Second Floor: Each of the two double bedrooms has a set of twin beds with a chest of drawers, a mirror, bedside table, built in wardrobes and exposed beams. The fully tiled shower room has a wash basin, bidet and a step in shower. There are also mirrors and power points for shavers and hairdryers. The WC is separate. Skylights give a light airy feel.
First Floor: the sitting room is equipped with satellite flat screen T.V. receiving the normal French terrestrial channels via an aerial and most UK terrestrial stations and various English Language Radio Stations via satellite. There is also video and audio unit, the latter which plays CDs and tapes. There are plenty of books in the book
case some of which give very useful information about the area.
There is a comfortable 3 piece suite which will sit 5 people. The dining area has a balcony looking out over onto the street where you can watch the world pass by, an expandable round table with 4 chairs and 2 stools making it possible to seat 6 people. The kitchen is equipped with a gas cooker, fridge freezer, microwave/grill and toaster. There is a 2nd WC.
On the ground floor there is the single bedroom with a single bed, wardrobe, bedside table and chest of drawers. There is also a wash basin in this room.
Behind this there is a utility room where there is a butler sink and washing machine and a small garage sufficient for a Ford Fiesta sized vehicle. In the garage and utility room you will find various items of use on days out to the beach including an insulated cool bag.
There is free parking on the street for those cars too large for the garage.
General Notes: Linen and towels provided, beach towels can be supplied for a small extra cost.

The village is over 1,000 years old with lots of old architecture and narrow streets. The evenings can be spent walking alongside the Canal du Midi, exploring the village then calling in for an aperitif at one of the two cafés in the main square of the village where you will be able to sit outside, watch the world go by, admire the stunning architecture of the church and pass the time of day with the locals.
There are a number of restaurants which give good value for money and the Café de la Grille has a Bistro type menu.
There are a number of beaches, Valras being the closest is about 25 minutes by car. This has a fine sandy beach with sheltered bathing areas for children and also a playground making it very family orientated.
