This recently-renovated house has been restored to retain all its charm,including the historic murals of the Pierre de Lys gorge painted on the front facade. . The accommodation is flexible, and newly-equipped, with electric heating and woodburner, so is suitable for year-round use. The balcony affords lovely views to the mountains. 
 
Belvianes is a peaceful village, perched on a promontory above the Aude river and, well-located to enjoy numerous outdoor activities and to explore Carcassonne, Cathar castles and other places of interest. Quillan is a lively town (2km away) and has an outdoor swimming pool, market, a good choice of shops, restaurants and regular festivals. Ski resorts and the Mediterranean coast are both about 1 hour away.

    • On the ground floor the entrance hall with antique-tiled floor leads to a sitting room with 2 sofas, TV/DVD woodburner and good selection of books, board games and local information. The kitchen is well-equipped and the central table seats six. French windows lead onto a west-facing balcony with table chairs and parasol. Upstairs the master bedroom has a king-sized double bed and washbasin, and the family bedroom is flexible with sofa bed (which can be used as a second double) and bunk beds. Belvianes has a small park with playground and large area suitable for ball games close to the house. There is a cafe/bar within walking distance. A local English-speaking couple will welcome you and can assist with any queries during your stay.

    • There are many beautiful way-marked trails and walks from the doorstep - the mountain air is scented by the wild flowers of the guarrigue, and in the spring there are many orchids. It is possible to walk to the town along the river (approx 45 minutes) and there are many activity centres nearby offering rafting and kayaking. For families there are many things to do - the Dinosaur museum at Esperaza, water parks, tourist trains through the vineyards, wildlife parks. The beach lake at Puivert offers a supervised swimming area, beach, pedalos and cafe - a perfect day out (15 km away). 
     
    The area is rich in historic interest - Carcassonne, Rennes le Chateau and the Cathar castles are well-known, but there are many other places to explore! The public swimming pools fed by thermal springs are a must for all ages.
