The Languedoc-Rousillon region has lots to offer. Its a beautiful region famous for its wine and historic cathar castles. It is only one hours drive to both the beautiful mediterranean coast and the breathtaking pyrenees for skiing, or walking. It is also only an hour and a halfs drive to the border of spain, and about 3 hours from Barcelona. The area has so much to offer from the historic worldwide tourist attraction of Carcassonne Cite to the very cosmopolitan Toulouse, from the beaches to mountains. There are also beautiful lakes and thermal spings. It has a very mild climate with a short winter from November to March. Even in winter the blue sky can be spectacular. Limoux is a wonderfully lively town, with almost constant social events whether its the famous carnival which runs for three months from January to March, wine festivals or summer festivals. It has an animated square with bars and restaurants. There are some exceptional places to eat in Limoux and in the surrounding area, all of which are very reasonably priced. Within Limoux itself there is an indoor swimming pool and an outdoor pool on the same site which is open in July and August. In the same vicinity there are tennis courts and a canoe station on the River Aude.
Only 15 minutes drive away there is a forest recreation park and a wonderful outdoor thermal swimming pool. The spectacular Lac Montbel is situated within 30 minutes drive where in July and August you can hire boats, pedalos, bikes and go pony trekking. Within an hours drive there is the beautiful Mediterranean coast. Narbonne Plage and Lecaute Plage are the nearest and have beautful white sandy beaches. If you fancy shopping Montpellier, Perpignan and Toulouse are all no further than an hour and a half away. Closer to home there is Narbonne, Mirepoix and various points of access to the Canal du Midi.
The house is fully equipped to a very high standard and is all brand new and modern. It is particularly suited to a family as there are toys, games and a paddling pool all of which may be used if required. There is also a cot and a highchair.
All towels and bed linen are also provided.
At the back of the house there is a terrace and small garden backing onto a vineyard with further lawned areas to the side and front of the house. There is a drive with space for parking and an integral garage. There is a gas fired BBQ and garden furniture.
Ryanair offer very reasonable flights from Stanstead to Carcassonne just 25 minutes from Limoux Ryanair also fly into Montpellier (2 hours drive) and Perpignan (1 hour and 30 minutes drive). Easyjet have a flight from Gatwick to Toulouse which is about 1 hour away Flybe offer a flight from Southampton to Perpignan.
If you would prefer to drive it takes about 11 hours and you can either take the ferry from Portsmouth to Cherbourg or Dover to Calais or you can take the Eurotunnel from Folkestone to Calais. However the nearest ferry port to Limoux is Bilbao in Spain which is about 6 hours drive. This ferry leaves from Portsmouth.
The other option is to take the TGV through France.
