Vacation Rental Description
The vacation rental in Languedoc Roussillon - Mode d'Artiste comprises 3 spacious well-equipped vacation apartments for rent in Couiza, Languedoc Roussillon. Each vacation rental has its own computer, free broadband internet access and is hung with original paintings (landscapes, portraits and abstracts) by 3 talented local artists - Allison Carmichael, Cath Mascres and Vanilla Beer. Each apartment is fully self-contained and attractively furnished with a well-equipped kitchen (including oven, washing machine, microwave, toaster, etc.) and a bathroom with shower attachment and separate WC.
The French vacation rentals are in the centre of Couiza, a short walk from shops (including a huit-a-8 supermarket), 2 excellent restaurants - one at the Chateau des Ducs de Joyeuse, the other being the Carnotzet. Couiza also has 2 patisseries and we highly recommend the patisserie next to the Huit-a-8, which has a great range of French bread, pizzas, pies, cakes and other delights.
There's a river swimming spot 2 minutes drive or 10 minutes walk away, as well as plenty of lakes and other rivers in the area.
The 3 vacation rentals are as follows:
Ground floor - Bedroom with king-size bed, double sofa bed in the lounge (sleeps 4) - has a door opening onto the terrace, though the terrace is shared by all 3 floors.
1st floor - Twin bedroom, double room and sofa bed in the lounge (sleeps 6) - has a large dining table that expands to seat 10, ideal if you wish to book 2 vacation apartments together and eat comfortably as a large group.
2nd floor - Bedroom with 4-poster bed, double sofa bed in the lounge (sleeps 4) - has an enormous open plan lounge / dining area and wood burning stove.
Each apartment has its own bathroom, separate WC, kitchen, entrance, lounge and dining area and is hung with original works of art giving Mode d'Artiste its name.
Facilities
Mode d'Artiste in Couiza is attractively decorated and furnished and has a computer, free broadband internet access (via Ethernet cable, which is faster than wi-fi, though wi-fi is also available). The kitchen's are well-equipped with ample pots and pans and a selection of books and games are also provided. If you're travelling with a baby or young children, we can also provide a cot, high chair, push chair and plastic utensils.
Activities
Vacations in Couiza are really at the heart of so many holiday activities, it's difficult to know where to begin!
Within a few minutes of Couiza are several popular tourist destinations - Rennes le Chateau (which inspired The Da Vinci Code) is only 4km, with a priest who became fabulously wealthy overnight in mysterious circumstances. Rennes-les-Bains is about 12km, with a naturally heated thermal spa and miles of beautiful walks.
That said, there are beautiful walks throughout the whole area, including some starting from Couiza itself.
Esperaza is nearby with a bustling Sunday market and Quillan has an outdoor swimming pool, cinema and theatre. Other nearby towns include Limoux, Alet-les-Bains and Antugnac.
Carcassonne is 34km away with an ancient castle waiting to be explored and Perpignan is 60km, with beaches and a good range of shops. Toulouse is 100km away, each city has its own airport. We're also on a bus and train route).

We accept payment by cheque, bank transfer or PayPal (or cash if you're booking within 5 days of your arrival). We ask for a 75 Euros deposit per week to secure your booking, with the balance due 2 months in advance of your arrival. We recommend taking holiday insurance, in the event that you do cancel, we only offer refunds if we let out the property to someone else, in which case we give full refunds if the income is the same as the charge for your booking. Prices for Languedoc vacation rentals depend on the season as follows: Low 1 November to 26 April Mid 26 April to 28 June + 27 September to 31 October High 28 June to 19 July & 30 August to 27 September + Christmas Peak 19 July to 30 August
