Vacation Rental Description
Villa les Hauts is a recently built cut stone property built in the traditional style, on a small exclusive prize-winning development overlooking the old village of Durban Corbieres in the Languedoc region of Southern France. The accomodation consists of two double and one twin bedroom, one ensuite shower/wc and a further bathroom and wc, living/dining room and kitchen, private heated swimming pool, sun deck and terraces for outdoor dining. There is an outdoor barbeque next to the swimming pool for al fresco dining. The house is furnished very comfortably to a high standard. There is SKY Satellite TV receiving stations in English, DVD player and DVD library. In the kitchen there is a washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher and microwave. Outside seating for 6 in a sheltered terrace, with a landscaped garden with additional seating areas and views of the medieval Cathar Castle of Durban Corbieres.
The village has a supermarket, pharmacy, bakery, bank, petrol station as well as a bar/restaurant and other local shops. There are other restaurants in nearby towns and villages and excellent seafood restaurants especially in the coastal regions.
Durban is an hour away from Carcassone and Perpignan airports, both served by Ryan Air, half an hour from Narbonne for access by high speed train. The motorway network is only half an hour away with access to the North to France, Italy and via the channel to England. To the South the Spanish border is an hour and a half away.
Durban Corbieres is in the heart of the Cathar country, and is in the middle of the Corbieres wine producing region. Just twenty minutes away in the village of Tuchan is the largest producer of Fitou wines. Thirty minutes away to the East are the beautiful beaches of La Franqui and Leucate on the Mediterranean, two hours away to the West are the ski slopes of Font-Romeu in the Pyrenees Orientales. The historic walled city of Carcassonne is only an hour away. All the main Cathar Castles are within easy driving distance.
Travelling south there is the historic city of Perpignan and popular coastal towns including Collioure with its ancient fort and picturesque harbour as well as fine seafood restaurants on the sea front.
In Narbonne, about 30 minutes to the North, there is the Canal-du-Midi as well as some fine restaurants. Should you need to visit larger supermarkets they are all there on the way in to Narbonne. If you like the hustel and bustke of French markets then try the Sunday morning market alongside the canal in Narbonne. There is also a wonderful covered food market open till 1.oopm Monday to Saturday where you will find excellent quality mouth watering local produce.
The beautiful Mediterannean beaches of Leucate and Le Franqui as well as the Aqua sports centres are less than 45 minutes away. Water skiing and other water sports are available in many of the coastal towns.
The African reserve at Sigean is one of the most highly rated wild life parks in Europe and is less than half an hour away and is great entertainment for adults and children alike.
Add all these ingredients together with the many opportunities for sampling the local wines and you have a recipe for a lovely relaxing holiday in the South of France with almost guaranteed sunshine in summer.
Facilities
All linen including beach/pool towels is provided. For stays of more than 1 week the linen will be changed weekly and the property will be cleaned. There will be a welcome pack on arrival. The pool can be heated to suit your requirements but must be kept covered when not is use to comply with French Law. Deck chairs and umbrellas to shade you from the excesses of the sun are provided and there are some pool "toys" for children.
Activities
Golf is available at the Golf Club of Carcassonne, about 50 minutes away. Skiing is available in the Pyreness at Font Romeu, about 2 hours away. There is a tennis court in Durban. Water skiing, wake boarding and paragliding are all available at the Mediterranean resorts from about 30 minutes away.
