3 Bedroom Cottage in Route de Cathars

35 kms North of Carcassonne. Setin a steep hillside garden south facing overlooking the tiny hamlet of Lafargue in the Commune of Castans.The small fast flowing river Clamoux runs close by,and,after a day's hill-walking you are soothed by,birdsong,the chirrupping of crickets, the smell of jasmine&lavender,the sound of the water tumbeling down to the Canal du Midi . The laughter of neighbours enjoying l'aperatifin the gardens below tempts you to rise from your seat to join them . 
After dinner on the terrace taking a glass or two of the local wine,time to peer through your telescope & reach for the Stars Wild life abounds: deer,wildboar& many species of bird. . 
For sporty types there's a network of well waymarked footpaths providing a choice of walks from one hour strolls to eight hour hikes. Mountainbiking is also very popular. 
In the school holidays.you'll find there are plenty of children playing around .Very small children will need to be supervised,though as the garden is steep and there are steps on the terrace. 
Another of nature's delights...the autumn mushroom gathering the harvesting of walnuts,chestnuts and sometimes truffles..... 
Most weekends in summer the surrounding hamletts each have their own fete du village,traditional music,dancig loud  
rock..everyone eats together at long tables in the open air or in the village hall.Sometimes 5 courses In the next hamlet to ours bread is baked for these occaisions in a huge stone & oven which takes 2days to reach the correct temperature...this is a 200 year old tradition ,recently revived .The house has three bedrooms upstairsaliving room with logfire.a utillity room, two bathrooms and a well equipped kitchen with a table seating up to eight 
Alarge rock(pictured)in one corner is an unusual feature.

Two cots & high chair are available on request. Francine,our friendly house keeper, will baby-sit or clean by arrangement. There are two attached out-houses:garden furniture, equipment,tools,extra refridgerater, woodstore, barbeque etc .. Milk,fruit,veg,local produce etc is brought up by 'livraison ambulante'(travelling shops) At the sound of the 'Klaxon'people emerge in dressing gowns to make their purchases...and exchange views In Lafargue ,Castans there are no English speakers , so your French improves of necessity.

In the Summer weeks you can attend plays,concerts ( classicl, traditional or pop,)The medieval Abbey of Caunes- Minervois & the City of Carcassonne stage events every night. 
.Minutes away there is a large swimming lake with beach ,play area,pizzaria,paddleboats etc.Nearby , the children can go walking with lamas,or ponyriding in the Montagne Noir. 
You will discover marvellous Chateaux in the Aude region some dating from the time of the Cathars in the 13th  
to more modern Domains producinga selection of the most prestigeous appellations in the whole of France

• Travel Info: Best route....Fly to Carcassonne...hire a car....shop at LeClerc. You will find this super market after you leave the air port & you are following the road to Mazamet .... At the cottage there are three refridgeraters.No need to move for at least two weeks.. Should you want to write your memoire, novel,essay or diary,whilst children run wild , this is the place for you!
