Only 5 miles from the major attraction of Carcassonne, Ventenac is located in picturesque countryside. The gite ise on the edge of the village in an appealing setting, with open views across fields and vineyards. 
 
If you like the idea of a holiday in a rural and historic area, but also like the comforts of home, this smart first floor gite would suit well.

Ventenac is one of the many villages in the area which seems to have remained unchanged throughout the centuries with it’s chateau, medieval church and narrow shaded streets, but does have it’s village shop cum baker as well as it’s vineyards. The Cabardès wine is one of the many reputes AOC wines..  
 
The area is a paradise for walking, cycling and riding. In all directions you can enjoy the picturesque and beautiful countryside – grain and sunflowers grow – vines _ hills - valleys, rivers and glorious shapes and colours – keep a look out for Napoleons avenues of Plane trees.  
 
Just a 10 minutes drive away, the city of Carcassonne and it’s medieval Citadel is a must – don’t miss the Saturday morning market, but remember, comfortable walking shoes/sandals. 
 
The Aude departement is also a centre of culinary excellence. The restaurants, too numerous to be named, offer an interesting blend of south western French and Mediterranean cuisine that is all the more authentic when associated with the local wines. 
 
The French Pyrenees are within an hours drive for unrivalled mountanous scenery and of course the ski slopes – some of the sunniest (and cheapest) in France.  
 
A similar drive time will take you to the warm waters of the Med, further afield - an hour or so will take you into Duty Free Andorra for a little retail therapy. 
 
The area is Cabardes – one of France’s largest wine growing areas. Who could want for anything more ?

    • Just 10 minutes from the bustling medieval city of Carcassonne – cheap flights via Ryanair. The adjoining garden has barbeque, sun loungers, tables and chairs. For those who prefer to sit in the shade, the fig trees offer the ideal solution. The 10 x 5m pool with walk in steps is separated with a gate for safety purposes. The gites are light and sunny and are fully equipped. They have been carefully decorated with antique furniture and colourful fittings that co-ordinate so well with the Meditteranean terra cotta tiles and white walls.
