The Marais is located in Paris' 3rd and 4th arrondissements and is the epicenter for today's Parisian art scene. In addition to being one of today's trendiest neighborhods, the Marais is also one of the most historic areas in Paris. A place of aristocratic residence in the seventeenth century, it was abandoned during the Revolution and became an architectural wasteland. In 1962 it was declared an historic are and its restoration began. The area is now once again fashionable with many galleries, restaurants, fashion boutiques and cultural centers. The main streets and narrow passageways are bustling with activity. Nearby are the Pompidou/Beaubourg Museum, the Picasso Museum, the Louvre Museum and the stunning Place des Vosges. Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est train stations are both nearby. Orly and Charles de Gaulle Airports are easily reachable by taxi or the Metro.
