Ideally placed to make the most of all that the Loire Valley region has to offer, Chabris is a bustling village on the banks of the lovely river Cher.
Our rental cottage or Gîte is a wing of the grand town-house constructed 150 years ago for a wealthy local family and incorporating a much older former nunnery building. The cottage appartment was origially used by the family chauffeur and underwent a program of extensive renovation and improvement in 2004-2005. Facilities, decor and equipment have all been modernised and installed to a high standard, while many attractive and authentic touches have been retained.
The cottage offers accommodation on two floors. The ground floor has direct access to the driveway and front garden and is of open-plan format, providing flexible facilities for a couple or larger family. It serves as a kitchen-diner, with newly purchased equipment for those who like to cater for themselves: electric kettle, coffee-maker, microwave, cooker, fridge-freezer, etc.
The lounge is ideal for both quiet evenings or entertaining and has a sofa, arm chairs and other furnishings. A TV offers French channels and has a DVD player attached.
A side door leads to a colourful enclosed garden and a BBQ and high quality patio set is provided for al fresco eating.
A locally made hardwood stairway leads to the upper floor which consists of two generous bedrooms and a modern bathroom. There is plenty of storage and beds to sleep 4. The bathroom is completely new and includes a shower, wash basin and W.C.
B&B accommodation is in three generous bedrooms on the first floor, each with modern en-suite facilities. The house itself is found in a quiet street just a few minutes walk from the village centre with its ancient church, local shops, restaurants and lively Saturday market.
Big Blue: A large, confortable room with spacious private bathroom. Two big windows overlook the flower garden: delightful in summer. Original features include its antique marble fireplace.
Blue Berry: Our twin room features solid wood furniture and floors, with a traditional shuttered window facing the garden. Modern private bathroom. Built-in full height wardrobe.
Chabris Chic: Awarded 4 stars by the Gites de France, antique furniture and modern facilities give this double a special feel. The bedframe, side tables, chairs, mirror and pictures are all original to the house.
A friendly community with plenty of activities for those who want them, Chabris is also a peaceful haven to rest and recuperate from the demands of modern living.
While there is little need to venture out of the region, some visiters use the gite as a base for wider travel. With Paris just over 2 hours away by car or train, Chabris' central location makes it ideal for sightseeing throughout France.
