Vacation Rental Description
The property is usually let for max. 8 adults + 2 babies/toddlers. 10 adults would be considered (Z-beds provided). The large stone house, part 17th part 19th century, is approached through wide wooden doors opening from the street. This allows cars to drive in under the 'gatehouse' up into the high-walled garden which gives seclusion and privacy. Entrance is into the large fitted kitchen, with table and bench seating for 6/8, + utility room, with dishwasher and washing machine.
The kitchen leads into the large salon (with old piano, music in cupboard) and the elegant dining-room. Both lead into the hall, with WC. On the 1st floor there are 3 airy bedrooms and a spacious bathroom. Upstairs again, the loft 'flat' has its own sitting room, 2 single bedrooms (+2 Z-beds) and a shower room; in minimalist style this eyrie is popular with the younger generation. The garden has plenty of furniture and space for relaxation.
•The salon has high, beamed ceilings,an open wood burning fireplace,piano,hi-fi (in cupboard with games and music) books and comfortable seating.
•1st floor Bedrooms: 1 twin, 1 zip and link double and one small French double with an extra pull-out bed and wooden cot, all with shelf and hanging space and towel rails.
•The ground and 1st floor windows have secondary glazing.
•The garden faces south and east, giving sun and shade - with trees and shaded terrace by the house
•L’Image, the hotel/restaurant around 200m from the house, are our keyholders
•Our English speaking agent is available to answer any questions. He is from the family who own L’Image
•His partner looks after and cleans the house. 3 hours cleaning is included in the rental
•Preuilly's heated outdoor swimming pool is open in July and August; tennis is bookable at the Mairie - side entrance down road to right of Transaxia estate agent; both are about 5 mins walk
•There are good restaurants and food stores within 250 m. and a large supermarket at Yzeures-sur-Creuse, about 15 mins drive
•Internet access is at the Preuilly media centre, about 5 mins walk, opening hours on house notice board.
Preuilly-sur-Claise is an ancient small town with many old stone houses; it is the centre of the commune, set by the river in rolling countryside. Although small, it includes 3 restaurants (of varying styles and menus - in our opinion L'Image is best), 2 hotels with bars and. Within 200m there are a Post Office, 2 boulangerie, a charcuterie and a boucherie, 2 pharmacies, Credit Agricole, small market on Thursday, abbey church, small chateau (private) and museum and a library where one may for 5 Euros a term benefit from internet access. The Tabac, selling local and English language papers (currently Daily Telegraph) is around 80 paces from the house.
Nearby, within 20 mins drive, there are several river swimming spots on the Creuse, Haute Touche Animal Park, walks in the Foret de Preuilly, riding near Grande Pressigny, Golf at La Roche Posay; 30 mins brings you to the large leisure lake of Bellebouche, with a real sandy beach, pedalos, restaurant, and shaded woodland or eastward to the canoeing at Descartes, southward to boating at Le Blanc, with its splendid museum on the history of the Brenne fishing lakes.
Preuilly is in the southern tip of Indre et Loire, la Sud-Touraine, benefitting from the many tourist attractions of the Loire Valley, and those of the north of La Vienne and the Brenne with its nature reserves and lakes to the east. The climate is temperate, with the proverbial golden light of the Loire.
'le cave' La Domaine de Ris is 15 mins from Preuilly at Bosssay-sur-Claise. The Brenne man-made fishing lakes provide for nature lovers and 'twitchers' - and a cooling icecream at the inn by lake Le Gabriere. The southern Touraine is also a region of 'pre-history' with troglodytic dwelling and museums and archeological sites.
Facilities
The doctor and dentist are within 200m. Down by the river, near the swimming pool, there is a playground with fishing lake(with plenty of space for football practice. The best time to book for tennis is from 11.00am as there is no need to return the keys until after the lunch hour! The courts are across the bridge, by the river. Find the river at Neons-sur-Creuse, enjoy a swim, cross the stepping stones. The Loire is the region of the kings of France where there is a much 'history'; we stopped counting at 140 places of interest. These include the many chateaux;for us the best is Chenonceaux (around 45 mins). Great for families is Le Clos Luce,home of Leonardo da Vinci at Amboise;it includes outdoor, working, usable models of some of his inventions. Tours has many museums, and shops, a theatre - and a bus from/to Preuilly at least twice a day. There are of course, many 'caves' for wine tasting and buying in the region.
Activities
South in Vienne is Chatellerault, for Thursday market and coffee on the Boulevard Blossac or tour the Motor Museum; or try the leisure centre, with flumes and picnic by the river! The Auchan is here too.
Then there is steep sloped Angles-sur-Anglin, 'un des plus beaux village de France'; a little further south brings you to St Savin with its World History Site,its abbey with ancient wall, ceiling and pillar paintings.
Then westwards to Chauvigny with its crumbling fortress, where one may sit overlooking the valley and view a display of great condors and storks and the like flying near - some very near; and west again to the southern atmosphere of Poitiers, its cafes and shopping.
Then, of course, around 45 mins away is the Futuroscope, with its fantastic buildings, IMAX cinemas, large playground and evening lasar shows.
We like to drive the small country routes, over the rolling hills,enjoying the views, picnicking by rivers...
Travel Options
- Nearest Airport : Tours at 70 kilometers distance;
- Nearest Train Station : Chattelerault (or Tours as above) at 34 kilometers distance
- Nearest Town : In Preuilly at 0 kilometers distance
- Travel Info: For Airports, Poitiers (south) and Tours (north) are around equidistant time wise - around 1 hour 15 mins; Limoges is a possibility - 2 to 3 hours away. Paris is 3+ hours. There is a bus from Tours: school days once a day each way; hols twice a week! So a car is more or less essential and can of course be hired in advance. There is a taxi service in Preuilly, which we can book for you. Ferries are frequent from the UK in season and we can advise on routes. We are between Tours and Poitiers. The nearest large town is the pleasant Chattelerault, about 35 mins.

• Usual start day Saturday (others possible) • A non-refundable deposit of 250 euros per stay is required, to be paid to our agent on arrival. Returned by him (minus any breakages etc) at the end of your stay. • Linen and electricity are included in the price + 3 hours cleaning. Extra linen/cleaning may be ordered from our 'femme de ménage' (prices on notice board in kitchen). • Payment may be made in £s, US $s or euros (at the current rate at the time but not less than 1 euro or US dollar to the pound) by cheque or money transfer. • Once the contract is signed, the full price must be paid if cancellation is within 8 weeks of the start of the rental period. (Insurance is advised) However, if a re-let is achieved only the original deposit will be kept by us. • All details of conditions of letting are on the appropriate forms which would be emailed to you. Daily rate available some seasons - 3/4 night minimum. Do enquire.
