Vacation Rental Description
20% discount in the Cottages for couples (2 people) during June & September.

Accommodation:

The Cottages: Each can sleep 7 plus 1 baby in a cot. Each has 3 bedrooms (master bedroom with superking size bed, 1 double/triple/twin and 1 double/twin), shower room, large living/dining room, kitchen and wood burning stove.

Both cottages have their own garden area. Cots, linen and towels are provided.

Until 1990 Razay was a substantial working farm, consisting of a farmhouse, extensive barns and outbuildings. The farm supported the adjacent Château de Razay with all its needs. In recent years the farm workers cottages have been modernized and the stables converted, offering 3 self-catering holiday homes; 2 cottages each sleeping 6/7 people and The Stables sleeping 10 plus a baby. The large gardens include a fenced, heated swimming pool of 5m by 10m and children’s play equipment. Razay itself has a small lake (with excellent carp fishing for exclusive use of guests), some woodland, and fields, extending to a total of about 15 acres.

Only about 4½ hrs from Caen/Le Havre, Razay is situated approximately 40 kms east of Tours in the Loire Valley, midway between the medieval towns of Loches and Montrichard. The nearest village (2 kms) is Céré-la-Ronde, which has some small shops, an excellent café and a tennis court open to the public. The area is predominantly agricultural with a wide variety of crops being grown, with, of course, large areas devoted to growing grapes for wine.

Other facilities on-site include a full size indoor badminton hall, a well-equipped fitness suite, heated swimming pool, table tennis, bicycles, small soccer pitch, volleyball, basketball, children's play equipment (14’ trampoline, swings, etc), laundry room, large gardens and barbecues. The lake is well stocked with carp (up to approx 20lbs).

Local amenities: Golf, horse riding, tennis, jet-skiing and canoeing.

The Loire valley is renowned for its historic Chateaux, one of the most famous being Chenonceaux which is a mere 12 kms away. The medieval Chateau de Montpoupon is even closer about, a 15 minute walk away, with its museum of hunting and ancient kitchens. Loches, Amboise (wonderful Sunday market) and Blois are all within an easy car drive. Probably the best zoo in France, at St Aignan, is an easy 15 minute drive away. There are some excellent golf courses within an hours drive. Other activities available in the local area include horse riding, tennis, jet-skiing, paintballing and canoeing. The area abounds with vineyards and wine producers many of whom offer tastings and sell direct to the public. The local area produces some excellent cabernet and gamay red wines whilst the town of Montrichard is well known for its production of red and sparkling white wines. The world reknowned Appelation Controlé of Vouvray is within a 40 minute drive. Montrichard offers “beach” facilities on the River Cher with a children’s playground, public tennis courts and boating. Montrichard and most other local towns have indoor and outdoor swimming pools and at least one and often two market days. The countryside is gently rolling making it very interesting for touring especially, in our opinion, by bicycle where the quiet roads and villages can be explored and as you would expect you will find a wide variety of cafes and restaurants.

"As soon as we turned down the drive we felt that we had stepped in to a wonderful holiday - and we did. The pictures on the website did not do the high ceilinged bedrooms justice. This complex has the perfect mix of being sociable and peace and quiet. Thanks for a wonderful holiday - we will be back." (Julie, Martin and Family, Coventry, Aug 2004)

"A fantastic sunny and hot week with plenty of fish caught. Only our eighth visit so we are just getting used to it here! The week was excellent." (Roger & Alex, Norwich, Sep 2004)

"We've had a lovely relaxing week. Have enjoyed having some fairly competitive matches in the badminton hall. We loved going for bike rides in the woods and rowing in circles on the lake. Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable week." (The Oakleys and Hills, Herts & Cornwall, Sep 2005)

"The first thing Billy (age 6) said upon arrival was "where's the TV?", have to say that none of us even thought about it for the rest of the week as we were so busy eating, drinking, swimming, riding the quads and bikes, fishing, archery, playing games and chatting!! The cottage was very comfortable, best nights sleep x7 in ages! We will definitely be back with new arrival as this is the perfect place to bring a baby. Thanks Jill, Simon and Charlotte." (The Nelson Family, Norwich, May 2006)

"We have had a brilliant time on our holiday to Razay. We loved the super-king size bed, we want one for home! This holiday gave us the relaxation and fun which we most greatly needed." (Sam and CJ, Derbyshire, Jun 2006)

"We have all had a superb holiday, everything is so well organised, the pool, gym, bikes, etc, something for all ages." (The Stone family, London, Jul 2006)

"A truly beautiful place to spend a very leisurely 2 weeks! Weather has been glorious, facilities excellent (and I'm assurred the fishing has been great!) Loads to do for the boys. Although we don't usually go back to the same place twice, I think in this instance we might be tempted - we will definitely be telling friends and family what a fantastic time awaits you at Razay! A big thank you for a lovely holiday." (The Ginnaw Family, W. Sussex, Jul 2006)

"Thanks again Jill for a great holiday (our 5th year!) and well done with the weather! We love it here and will be back next year." (Hilary, Michael and Family, London, Aug 2006)

"What a wonderful holiday we all had. Enjoyed some great times round the pool in the hot weather. Thanks Jill & Simon for being such great hosts & Charlotte & Harry too!" (Nick & Mandy Maughan , Hull, Aug 2007)

"Clare and I have been all over france over the past fifteen years, but we have never been anywhere as good as Razay for children/families. We all had a wonderful time, secure in the knowledge that the children were safe at all times. You have a wonderful balance of activities play areas, and yes, lawns for the children to play on, run around or just laze. Thank you for such a lovely place, and thank you especially Jill for being such a kind, welcoming and caring host. We felt as though we were part of a Razay family and look forward to returning, but for a longer period, in the future." (David & Clare Ritson, Tyne & Wear, Jun 2008)

"We have returned after 6 years away to find all the good things have been kept as they should be and even improved, and the changes that have been made were to things that needed improving like the kitchen, furnishings and the new shower upstairs, so well done to Jill & Simon for that. We will return again & hopefully bring some of the family & friends who shared our holidays here before, to show them it’s still a great place to come!" (Tony, Coleen & Sally Sheppard, Spalding, Lincs, Jun 2008)

"Smashing great time at Razay celebrating 50th birthdays. Perfect weather, great wine, wonderful people, gorgeous countryside, fascinating sites. A bike ride in the morning to Céré-la-Ronde for croissants was a fun chore, indeed! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!" (Jo, Chris, Sam, Lynn, Robin, Karen, Maureen, Roslyn & D, Washington DC, Boston Ma, London England, Jul 2008)

"Razay is awesome! Harry is the best dog ever! He’s so cute and very well trained. Thanks Jill, Simon & Charlotte!" (McPherson Family, West Sussex, Jul 2008)

"We've all loved our 2 weeks at Razay and have been so well looked after by Jill. Highlights included making friends with Harry, Jill and all those in Cottage 1, visiting the cows/calves at milking time, and all our days out to the zoo, markets, chateaus etc..." (The Dockings, Norfolk, Jul 2009)

"Very impressed with all the amenities in and around Razay, c'est fantastique. Home from home with the added bonus of a dishwasher. We've had an excellent 2 week stay and Jilly made our stay all the more warmer, for which we are very grateful. We are certain to see you again, we're going to come back, definitely!!" (The Jupps, Rugby, Aug 2009)

"What a wonderful holiday! For the first week we didn't even venture to the end of the drive - who needs to when Razay provides all that you could ever need? The pool, Harry, trampoline, Harry, badminton, Harry, oh, and not forgetting the wonderful Harry! Week 2 managed to lift urselves off the sun loungers for long enough to visit Fantasy Forest... Zoo at Beauval... the Chinese Pagoda... then back to Razay for relaxation, wine, friends and anything you could ever want on a holiday. Thank you Jill and Harry (hopefully we'll see you next time Simon - and looking forward to meeting Charlie!)" (The Whites and Wrights, Rutland, Aug 2010)

"3rd year - gets better every year. Great weather, great wine, great company. All being well, will see you next year. Thanks again." (The Phillips, Scotland, Jun 2010)
