2 Bedroom Chalet in Yonne

Lucy sur Yonne is a tranquil pretty village in northern Burgundy, with the Canal du Nivernais and the River Yonne meandering through.  
The Chalet is our old holiday home and is undergoing an internal refurbishment and upgrade this autumn. It is very comfortable with a delightful view over the canal & river where all sorts of holiday boat traffic and wildlife can be observed.  
 
There are no shops in the village but there is a bar which is quite convenient and open all year round. A local baker delivers delicious bread and croissants daily and a cheese & a grocery van twice a week. You just need to listen for the van's horn announcing it's arrival around 8 am. There is also a butchers and bakers in nearby Coulanges sur Yonne. 
 
The chalet is near to the church and the bells ring during the day, but not at night! It’s something you easily get used to and its lovely to hear from afar when taking an evening stroll along the river and canal or up in the woods near the local Chateau.  
 
Burgundy is divided into 4 areas - Yonne, Nievre, Cote D'Or and Saone et Loire. The village is in the Yonne (89), but very close to the Nievre (58) just a few kilometres away. 
 
Lucy is around 2.0 hours drive from Paris by car and 2.5 hours by train which can be caught nearby in Chatel Censoir, Coulanges sur Yonne or at the terminus in Clamecy. You can also change onto another local branch line down through the Morvan National Park to Autun which is a delightful journey. 
 
There are a couple of restaurants in Coulanges sur Yonne (2kms)and Courson (5kms), several in Clamecy (9km) and Vezelay(20km) and many dotted around in the villages along the river and canal. The city of Auxerre is around 40km or 40 minutes by car and 45 minutes by train where there is a large selection of shops to visit to discover, old buildings to explore, excellent restaurants to try and the Burgundian lifestyle to savour.

The chalet is available all year round and has electric heating in all rooms and a wood burning stove in the lounge that can heat the whole house. There is a tv with free digital channels along with a vast library of videos and dvds. Alternatively there is a big selection of books and a wide range of themes. The main bedroom has a country style walnut carved double bed and matching wardrobe and the second bedroom has a bed settee and built in wardrobe. The kitchen has a provincial style cherry wood buffet,a fridge/freezer, a 4 ring gas cooker with oven & grill, a toaster, kettle and microwave. There is a shower room with a toilet and hand basin. The area is ideal for walking and a choice of bicycles is available to go further a field via the very popular canalside towpath & countryside touring routes. You can also swim and fish in the river opposite the chalet. A mobile BBQ is also available. Pets are negotiable with a small charge.

There is a pre historic monster site called CardoLand ( www.cardoland.com/en/presentation.html )about 10kms away on the way to the historic hill top town of Vezelay ( www.vezelaytourisme.com/sommaire_ang.htm )which houses mainly holy relics in the Basilica which has a tremendous vista and was the home of Thomas a Becket in exile and from where Richard the Lionheart lead the 3rd crusade. There are also some very primitive cave paintings in the Grottes D'Arcy ( www.grottes-arcy.net/index_E.html )on the old N6. 
Many fine vineyards abound in this northern limit of the Burgundy region including the most famous, Chablis and many others including Irancy and St Brise. Clamecy is the nearest large town with several big super markets and the city of Auxerre has 2 cathedrals that stand guard majestically above the magnificent quayside water front to the river Yonne ( www.burgundyeye.com ). There is a vast choice of fine shops & restaurants here.

• Travel Info: BY TRAIN direct from Paris Bercy or indirect by Gare du Lyon and we can pick you up from Chatel Censoir. BY AEROPLANE via Paris Roissy CdG and then by train as above or rental car. (2.5-3 hours) BY ROAD from the north or CdG airport go south via the N104 Paris outer ring road (avoid the peripherique) to either the N5 or N6 then go south to Auxerre. Then by N151 to Coulanges sur Yonne then left onto D21 direction Lucy & Vezelay. Turn left at church and then right just before the canal bridge and the chalet is 100 meters on left with parking opposite off the road.
