Dear Bernard, thank you for giving us a wonderful place to live for 4weeks while we took advantage of all Burgundy had to offer. Your home is warm, many evenings reading in front of the fire – and quiet beautiful the views of the French countryside – I looked forward to getting up, seeing the sun rise over the mist.
Bernard, what more to say after my travel companions. Your warm and lovely home was the perfect setting of what I consider my most relaxing and fun filled holidays in Europe!

We came to celebrate a 60th birthday with my family and it was perfect. It is just a wonderful home with so much character – hope we will return. Best regards and thank you;

Thank you for a return welcome to "Les Hirondelles". Just as wonderful as my first trip with all the new improvements and extension. Swimming in a nice warm pool was great! Veronica.
A truly lovely memorable holiday. We hope we will return to your lovely home. It is not too distant for me. Grandmother. 29 August 2009

You have a beautiful home in stunning surroundings… We have had a fantastic fortnight with friends & family and the girls especially have gained so much confidence spending up to 5 hours a day in the pool. Great food and wine and a lovely boat trip in Verdun sur le Doubs.
The Green family. Rob, Racena (Pauline & Dave's daughter!) Megan & Aimee.
PS A new can opener would be useful! (We have bought 2 new ones the 31 August, Bernard)
Facilities for the children, even so young as ours were perfect… the pool & swings would
keep them occupied all summer long. I am sure we will return.

Bernard, another fantastic holiday at your beautiful home in a wonderful location.
Everything we could dream of and a second visit didn't disappoint. We enjoyed leisurely days in the pool in wonderful weather and had some good days out on the "Route du vin". You are the perfect host. A big thank-you from all the family.
Pauline & Dave 15-29 August 2009
PS Kevin & Béné's daughter (3yrs) took her first few strokes unaided in the pool!

Why is the house named "Les Hirondelles"?
Why the house is named « les Hirondelles » :
After 30 years living at the south coast of France, in Cannes where I ran a beach before getting in real estate development, an accident and a business opportunity brought me to Verdun sur le Doubs (14 km from the house) to take care of the harbour and 14 boats of Vetus, a big boat builder and warehouse for boats from Holland.
Not finding a house for rent or sale in that area I bought the old house (build in 1759) in the little village called Chivres. In the winter period, out of season for the boat renting I found time to start to renovate the house, which was too big for me alone, and started a bed & breakfast as soon as a few rooms were finished. But after two or three years I did not like that anymore: always waiting for guests saying they would arrive at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, but who appeared only in the beginning of the evening, or other guests wanting their breakfast at 8 o’clock in the morning (what took me to the baker at 7) and some other who only wanted their breakfast at 11 o’clock… Much work for little gain.
One day I received a lady working for the Inghams Company “Just France” who asked me if I was happy with those B&B activities, and I answered honestly: No. Then she asked: why don’t you rent the house completely per week instead of renting it per day or night, I can take care of that and send you the guests, you don’t have to be always there and take care of them. They would be happy and you also.
I was very enthusiast with that idea and answered, yes of course!
One little problem she said, you have to finish the house, and I can not rent a house with such a difficult name as “Hoeve van den Ing”, (that was the name of my mother who left us too early), so you will have to chose an easier name. As we were sitting on the terrace near the swimming pool, swallows made a ballet around us to pick some water out of the pool, so fast that I was always afraid one would break his neck one day, beautiful spectacle! So the answer came from itself: Les Hirondelles – The Swallows.
I stopped with my boat activities and it took me about ten years to finish the house completely and start its new function as holiday house. That was in 2002. I bought a guestbook (you can have a look at it on our website: www.leshirondelles.eu ). Only happy people: friends and family coming often from far away: USA, Australia, Canada, Japan and even once from the Emirats Arabes Unis! Why? Because the house is nice and well located close to the centre of France and opening on three different departments: Côte d’Or – Saône et Loire – Jura each with its own particularities and for us: Beaune vine capital and the very famous vineyards with unforgettable names like: Pommard – Meursault – Aloxe Corton and many more!
