Vacation Rental Description
Rue Maizieres is in one of the oldest parts of Beaune, within the old town walls. It is a typically narrow, medieval street which follows the line of the original Roman settlement walls. 15 Rue Maizieres is part of an ancient building which was given to the Abbaye de Maizieres in the 12th century and used as part of the abbey until the Revolution.
The apartment is reached by the original 800 stone, spiral staircase with entrance at street level. The rather plain facade, the entrance and staircase give little hint of the architectural gem hidden behind the solid oak front door on the second floor.
The sensitive renovation combines original structural elements (massive oak beams, stone corbels, subtly nuanced limestone walls) with harmonising finishes and carefully incorporated modern comforts. Painstaking attention has been given to the use of space, natural and artificial lighting, and to equipment. The result is a beautiful, spacious and airy living space. Windows give views of Rue Maizieres, and of the roofscape including the church of Notre Dame and the famous Cotes de Beaune vineyards.
The apartment comprises: at first level
a large living space divided by a modern oak screen into sitting and dining rooms
a fully fitted kitchen with top of the range appliances
a toilet and lobby with handbasin
and oak staircase to: second level
spacious landing with staircase to third level
2 double bedooms with king size beds
a fully fitted bathroom with large bath, shower and toilet
On the third level there is a large sitting/television room with a pull out double bed for a 5th person
The apartment is centrally heated, has centralised ventilation and vacuum-cleaning systems, double glazing, and electric shutters on the bedroom windows.
There is a basement cellar for storing wine purchases, bicycles etc.
A parking permit is provided for nearby on-street and covered off-street parking. There is pavement parking space outside the entrance for loading and unloading.
The visitors' book provides a useful guide to restaurants etc. as well as bearing witness to the large number of people who have not only loved their stay in the apartment but return again and again to enjoy its comforts.
