Moulin Vieux lies at the foothills of the Monts d'Aree in the heart of the Parc Regional d'Armorique. The immediate area has great similarities to that of Dartmoor in the south of England and the scenery you will find quite breathtaking. Around the corner from Moulin Vieux lies the beautiful Lac du Drennec, which has two beaches, sports facilities and creperie. In addition, the area is also famous for its walking, horse-riding and fishing as well as the Church Parish Closes unique to the region and one of Brittany's well-known forms of art.
The gite is approached via a pretty lane that winds its way down and takes you over a tiny bridge and stream into our private courtyard. The village of Commana is 1.5 miles away and here you can purchase your baguettes and croissants in the morning, as well as all your other needs. There are two restaurants and bars, one of which is a creperie. The pleasant towns of Sizun and Huelgoat are both within easy reach and are of interest. Moulin Vieux is the most perfect place to relax and caters for those who enjoy peace and tranquility in what we think are rather special surroundings. You can enjoy your lunch or BBQ by the stream, listen to rippling sounds of running water as it meanders and winds alongside our meadow, or take a stroll along either the lower or upper paths in our wood. Formerly a working mill, Moulin Vieux has origins dating back to the sixteenth century and was last milled during the sixties. During the passage of time the old working wheel outside has sadly disappeared, however, inside the kitchen the workings of the old mill stand proud keeping pace with time.
The Miller's house adjoining is ours and we are usually resident during the summer months to assist in any way we can to make your holiday special. In and around Moulin Vieux you will find something to suit everyone's taste. Our archery set proved very popular, Allan being around to show our guests how it is done. By the beginning of summer our new games room should be up and running, providing table tennis, darts, table football etc. Football and badminton nets can also be used on the lawn. To safeguard little ones, a safety fence and gate separates the stream from the main lawn, however, older children can have lots of fun playing in the stream under parents' supervision.
