Out & About
Tregarvan
Tregarvan itself is a small, very quiet and tranquil village. There is a delightful 16th - 18th century church, riverside promenade, moorings where locals keep their boats, and a community hall. At the top of the hill there is the Breton Rural School Museum that is of national significance and well worth a visit. Tregarvan sits below the Menez-Hom mountain, the highest in the region at 330m. On a clear day the panoramic view of the area from the top is breathtaking and well worth the drive up (or walk).

In Tregarvan, you can enjoy real French rural life whilst being able to access the lovely towns of Châteaulin (15 minutes) and Douarnenez (20 minutes) to soak up the Bretagne culture and history. The beautiful village of Locronan (20 minutes) and the town of Quimper (45 minutes) are within very easy reach. The city of Brest, the regional capital, and major tourist resorts of Benodet and Concarneau are within an hour's drive.

The Crozon Peninsula
The beautiful Crozon peninsula provides great opportunities for walking, cycling and all kinds of water sports. There are many miles of beautiful sandy beaches within a 10-30 minute drive. Shops are located in local villages of Dineault, Argol or Plomodiern or visit the E.Leclerc or Intermarche supermarkets in Châteaulin. The Crozon Peninsula is part of the Parc Naturel regional D'Armorique. It stretches from the picturesque Arree Mountains in the east to the wonderful beaches and coastal scenery of the 'Presqu'ile de Crozon to the west. The whole magnificent National Park is in the' Department of Finistere which in turn is part of the area of Brittany.

Presqu'ile de Crozon has in general been undiscovered by tourists as they tend to by-pass it on their way south. The French come in summer but it never gets that busy. The Presqu'ile extents about 30 kms by 10 kms. and in that area the scenery changes from towering cliffs at Point Espangnois with its bracing walks to long beautiful sandy beaches which stretch for miles (there are in fact over 12 sandy beaches to choose from and none of them get very busy). There are numerous delightful walks in forests & moors and we have 145kms. of coastal footpath around the Presqu'ile to explore.

    Review 1767 :

    From: From Owners GuestBook

    Rating: 5 out of 5

    Review Submitted: 7/13/2010

We have had two lovely family holidays in Brittany using Ty Gwyr as our base. The house is extremely well equipped with plenty of crockery and cooking utensils. The beds are very comfortable and there is lots of room to spread out. The games were a great hit with our grandchildren, although Granddad wasn't keen on the Bart Simpson game.

The various beaches are, without exception, excellent and were almost all suitable for swimming, brisk walks or strolls and games of cricket or boules. Sometimes we all went to the same location but mostly we spent the days apart and met up for family meals (the barbecue is great) in the evening.

The village of Tregarven is very quiet and is a great place to relax. Taking a stroll down to the river in the evening to see the sunset is a must. We were so lucky in the summer to be there during the festival at Menez Hom where we listened to traditional Breton music played on bagpipes and saw traditional dancers in their glorious costumes. A great place for a holiday.
