Vacation Rental Description
Le Grenier is set in half an acre, 2km from the small town of Plessala. Situated in a tranquil setting, it has beautiful views over the valley and nearby forest.
Providing accommodation for up to six people, this family orientated character cottage has been recently refurbished to a high standard. There is a large garden with patio area, gas barbeque and ample space to park.
The original ancient stone cottage has been extended, with all the accommodation on one level except for a step down from the living room into the kitchen; the floor is tiled throughout the building. In the extension is the living/dining area which is comfortably furnished with sofas, coffee table, dining table and chairs, there is also a wood burning stove, television and DVD. This newer part of the building also houses the children’s bedroom which has bunk beds, wardrobe and a bookcase with a variety of books and games. The original building contains the spacious, well equipped kitchen (recently refitted), the bathroom which has a full size bath and shower over plus two good sized bedrooms (one double and one twin) which both have plenty of storage space.
The safe, outdoor space has a suntrap patio with garden furniture the remainder being laid to lawns with fencing/hedges along the minor road edge. There is plenty of parking on the gravelled drive next to the house.
The charming town of Plessala has shops, a well stocked supermarket for supplying your food and drink as well as a Crêperie which serves delicious lunches. The town also boasts a trout lake, children’s playground and petrol station. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area.
The area is rich in history and particularly suitable for ramblers, cyclists and anglers. There are several marked circular trails, taking in Plessala’s Celtic crosses, ranging from 5 to 16 kilometres, along with numerous other tracks through the forest.
The former railway line accessed at nearby La Prenessaye is one of a variety of good cycle/foot paths in the vicinity, with cycle hire available from the nearby towns of Plemet and Plougenast which are also starting points for canoeing along the river.
The river Lié is popular for fishing whilst many of the picturesque villages in the area have small parks with trout lakes. There are riding stables situated on one edge of the forest where ponies may be booked for treks .
2km from La Ville Josse is the historic Le Vaublanc, the site of an old forge, now occupied by a religious community who bake up to ten varieties of delicious bread the traditional way and are pleased to show their wood fuelled ovens to passers-by stopping for a chat and to buy a loaf.
La Cheze is a ten minute drive where you can discover a museum of local artefacts, a large fishing lake and in the summer an open air swimming pool. A short distance away is Moncontour, a perfect place to absorb some of the area’s history. Designated a Breton ‘Petit Cite de Caracter’ it perches beautifully on a hillside and contains within its centuries old walls fascinating higgledy-piggledy streets and buildings with unbelievably low doorways, along with a costume museum. It also boasts a selection of good restaurants.
The nearby towns of Lamballe and Ploeuc-sur-Lié both feature weekly traditional markets offering local produce. Lamballe is a great day out for horse lovers with large stables in the centre of town.
For exploring further a field, La Ville Josse is an ideally positioned touring base; a 10 km drive takes you to an intersection of major routes throughout Brittany. Forty five minutes in any direction brings an enormous range of places to visit.
The north coast has a range of picturesque sandy beaches and coves filled with sailing boats between Erquy and Cap Frehel where the ‘Viking’ castle with magnificent views tops the cliffs close to Pleneuf Val-Andre’s famous international standard golf course.
