Plouguenast is the centre of a friendly rural community and welcomes visitors. The neighbours greet new faces and old friends equally. The house is about 100 years old and was originally built as a shop, with big windows facing south-east for the morning sun. The ground floor is open plan, with a dining area and comfortable seating (seats 5). The corner-kitchen was refitted in 2007, with stove, microwave oven, toaster, eletric kettle and plenty of utensils. There is a WC, and a cellar/utility room with a washing machine. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with a double and a single. In the bathroom there is a bath with shower over, a WC and a sink. In the garden there is a small cliff! On the first floor landing is a door to the terrace between the cliff and the house, and from the terrace there are steps up the cliff to the garden. The garden is at roof-top level and overlooks the valley.  
 
The house overlooks the village pond and is a short walk from the village shops (butcher, baker, chemist, supermarket, ATM). Rather than being isolated in the countryside, here you can buy warm croissants only a few steps away, and still get into the wilds in just a few minutes. The house is easy to find, by the bridge over the River Lie - the starting point for many pretty walks at any time of year. Fly fishing, cycling and pony trekking are popular nearby. But the best aspect of this house is that it is an excellent base for days out - to the beautiful beaches of the bay of St Brieuc on the north coast, medieval towns such as Pontivy and Josselin in central Brittany, and the dramatic southern coastline of Morbihan. Wildlife is abundant nearby - the area is especially rich in birds. There are many prehistoric sites. The food is sourced locally, with great meat, seafood and cheeses. For other shopping try Loudeac or Lamballe nearby, or have a day out in Vannes, Rennes or Dinan.

Plouguenast is a small community that values the countryside and civic life. Outdoor pursuits are very popular, and there are biking and pony trails through the woods and fields. Many locals enjoy rambling, and you can join in the community rambles or head off by yourself though the Lie valley or the Loudeac Forest. There are kayaks for beginners on the river. The restaurants and cinema are open at weekends and holidays. In the nearby towns of Lamballe, Loudeac and Moncontour you can find some 'cafe society' and bigger events, especially during the summer when there are many evenings of barbecue and concerts, as well as markets and sports events. Horses are very important to the region and you can find plenty to do and watch, especially in Lamballe.
