Vacation/rental home Rue du Petit Fort Dinan Brittany - 500 year old character cottage
Average Review Score 5 out of 5
Vacation Rental Description
Located on the delightful, cobbled street of Rue du Petit Fort which leads on up the hill through Rue du Jerzual and into the town of Dinan, this cottage is great for a short vacation or longer holidays. The 500 year old cottage has recently been refurbished, whilst still maintaining the old character. On Rue du petit Fort and rue du Jerzual one can see excellent examples of half timbered houses dating back to the fifteenth century, the 13th century Jerzual gate giving access to the walled town and "La Maison du Gouverneur" (the Governor’s House).

The nearest restaurant is within 20 yards and Rue du petit Fort leads down to the port with further excellent restaurants. Boats may be hired at the port, golf is available at Dinard, Le Tronchet and Golf des Ormes, beaches and the port of St. Malo are within less than 20 miles. Normandy beaches may be reached in a day trip; allow 2 hours travelling each way for this.

The cottage has electric heating with a radiator in each room and comprises:- Large open plan lounge/ kitchen area with three piece suite, dining table and chairs, dishwasher, washing machine, satellite T.V. French T.V.

WIFI internet connection

Free phone calls to landlines worldwide

Rear sundeck with table and 4 chairs. Views across rooftops to the viaduct and beyond.

Upstairs there is a landing area leading to one double and one twin bedroom and bathroom with bath and shower above.

Shops: There is a bakery at the bottom of Rue du petit Fort and there are craft shops and restaurants on the way up Rue du petit Fort and on Rue du Jerzual. There are numerous food and other shops closer to the town; still less than 10 minutes walk from the cottage. There are supermarkets within a 10 minute drive.

Restaurants: In the immediate vicinity there are many; the nearest is Le Cottage which has a great atmosphere as the food is grilled over the wood burner. Next door to this is La Lumachelle which specialises in Pizzas. On the corner of Rue du Petit Fort and Rue du Port there is a creperie and just opposite by the bridge is Restaurant Les Terrasses which has a beautiful terrace right next to the river. Then there are numerous other restaurants and bars on Rue du Port.

Travel - There are many ferry services to Brittany available including Portsmouth to St. Malo, Caen and Cherbourg, and Poole to Cherbourg with Brittany Ferries or P&O. Flights to Brittany are available from London to Rennes, and by Ryanair at a very attractive price, from London Stansted or East Midlands to Dinard. Arriving at the Brittany port of St. Malo or Dinard leaves an easy drive of about 30 minutes to Dinan. The public transport connections are good throughout Brittany and for cycling enthusiast, there are interesting routes from St. Malo to the cottage.

This cottage is ideal for those who want a short vacation or longer holidays.

Many thanks for a wonderful time at your cottage in Dinan with everything provided for our comfort and amusement. We loved the town and port area with all the historic buildings and plenty of places to eat and drink, as well as the opportunity for country walks alongside the river to such places as Lehon and La Hisse.

Holiday in Dinan cottage

What a delightful spot and a wonderful historic town!
We wanted for nothing in the cottage, it contained everything listed and more besides. The log fires on chilly autumn evenings made it very cosy. All amenities were within walking distance and although the walk into town was steep, you barely noticed as the buildings were so fascinating! Great places to eat and drink very close by.
It is definitely somewhere we shall return to.

I totally agree with the comments made by others - you want for nothing in this house and we had a great time. Went to both restaurants a few yards from the house and had excellent meals and the bakery on the corner is to die for. Would definately stay at this house again if we are in the area.

Right in the heart of it...

This is my fourth visit to Dinan and my fourth choice of this property; my renewed choices speak volumes for the comfort and enjoyment while staying in this rented accommodation.

The cottage has loads of character: it is warm in winter (we stayed during an icy Christmas but never felt the cold, despite snow-laden cobblestones outside) and cool in summer. The owner has recently built a beautiful exterior deck which catches the sun in time for breakfast and retains it until 'happy hour', ie ANY time of the day!
The interior of the cottage, although old and redolent of ages past, has been modernised and is thus very practical. The owners have equipped the property with everything one might need on holiday; all the appliances were functional and efficient and the kitchen was especially well supplied with crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils.
The living area, although slightly dark, is not gloomy as there is a large window overlooking the historic Rue du Petit Fort, where the passing parade provides plenty of interest; nevertheless, privacy is assured by sensible curtains and shutters when appropriate.
On each of my visits, I have found a high standard of cleanliness on arrival; the bedrooms and bathroom are spacious, light and sparkling clean.

The location of the cottage is ideal from the point of view of proximity to the beautiful port on the River Rance as well as to charming shops, cafes and creperies in nearby Rue du Jerzoual, and the town centre. Apart from the disrupted sleep caused by a few thoughtless patrons, each stay has been memorable, made more so by the friendliness of kind local inhabitants.

I thoroughly recommend this property for a relaxing stay in the medieval splendour of historic, scenic Dinan.
