1 Bedroom Cottage in Ambert

Clean, comfortable and strictly for non-smokers, our Farm Cottage is the ideal choice for couples wanting a peaceful relaxing holiday. Possibly dating from around 1863, it was originally constructed as an extension to our Auvergnate Farmhouse. We have carefully renovated it, keeping many of the original features but ensuring that it now provides all that you need for the perfect holiday. We have just been awarded Three Stars by our local Tourist Board for our comfort and facilities.

The Cottage is completely self-contained and approached from a quiet country lane. There is a sitting area just outside the front door but you have the choice of several other areas in our gardens or orchard, all perfect places for lazing, lounging or eating outside. A barbecue is available for your use. There is no problem with parking your car and there is a lockable storage area where bikes can be safely left.

Once inside, the main floor is open plan. The modern well-equipped kitchen area is reached from the lounge/diner which has a comfortable settee, chairs, dining table, books, games and CD player and Television (Uk programmes only). The living area is spacious and comfortable and has views across our garden and meadow to the Monts de Forez - views that are constantly changing throughout the seasons.

The shower room has a large shower, washbasin, heated towel rail and W.C. It is bright and clean and has a Velux window. A wooden staircase leads up from the lounge to the galleried bedroom, which has a comfortable 4'6" double bed, a double wardrobe and plenty of drawer and storage space. The gallery looks out over the kitchen area and a Velux window gives views up towards the village of Le Monestier. The Cottage is centrally heated but when necessary this can be supplemented by a log effect gas fire and /or electric panel heaters. This is included in your rental as are towels, bed linen and tea towels. You have shared use of our separate Utility Room with washing machine, tumble drier and freezer.

We aim to include everything you might need to give you that "home from home" feel. We can even provide you with fresh vegetables from our garden.

Le Mayet nestles in the hills of the Livradois surrounded by forests and farmland. You can explore this little known area with its medieval market towns, castles and beautiful unspoilt countryside by car, by bike or on foot. Whatever the season there is always something to see or do here. Try a variety of walks directly from your front door, or venture further afield to go skiing in Winter or kayaking or rafting down the River Allier in Summer. We can provide you with maps, guide books and suggestions for a great day out. Alternatively you are welcome to just unwind in the garden, sampling local wines and cheeses and enjoying the peaceful surroundings, the birds, the forests and the flower-filled meadows.

The cottage is cleaned thoroughly before your arrival and clean bed linen, towels and kitchen towels are all changed on Saturdays. All gas and electricity is included in your rental - there are no hidden extras or nasty surprises.

The cottage is situated in the heart of the Livradois Hills and there are ample opportunities for walks straight from your front door. We can provide all the necessary maps and ideas for your excursions in the near vicinity or further afield and we have a good supply of tourist brochures. During the summer season there is always something happening locally - concerts, guided walks, festivals - the choice is endless. The local Tourist Train runs from Ambert to La Chaise Dieu during July and August and our municipal Swimming Pool has good indoor facilities with an outdoor area open in Summer. Our loal ski resort is about fifty minutes drive away. It is small and attractive but not being very high is very dependant on a good fall of snow. Larger ski resorts can be reached within two hours.
