The region is home to many chateaux, from ruined castles to chateaux with guided tours. Many have fetes during the summer where mock medieval battles are portrayed for visitors entertainment. La Platriere is situated in the Bourbonnais, home to the dukes of Bourbon, and several Kings of France. Steeped in history, there are many medieval towns and villages, with romanisque churches and architecture dating back to medieval times. During the summer months there is an abundance of medieval festivals and fairs to visit, where traditional costume is worn and original crafts to buy.
The region is also home to the A.O.C. cheeses. You can visit these "houses of cheese" and learn how they are made. Better still you can taste the superb cheeses. Likewise, there are several good vineyards to visit, and being a stone's throw from Burgundy, why not visit some famous vineyards and taste the very best of wine!
Visit too the volcanoes of Auvergne.
