La Maison du Bailli is a 15th -16th century cottage located in the village of Bellenaves. It is one of our largest and most charming properties. Virtually nothing has been changed in the house since its construction. It has sculptured Renaissance windows, 2 wine cellars with direct access from the living room, large oak beams, original red tiled floors and white washed walls. All furniture is antique (several pieces as old as the house) and the rugs are original oriental ones. 
 
Downstairs is the living room with a 15th century stone fireplace and a cosy candle-lit dining area for up to 8 people. From the living-room, a staircase leads directly down into the well-stocked wine cellar. Off the living-room is a double bedroom. Also downstairs is the kitchen decorated according to tradition, but with glass-ceramic stove, oven, dish-washer, washing-machine and seating for 6 people. The luxurious bathroom is downstairs as well and has whitewashed walls, oak beams, a large free-standing antique roll-top bath-tub and a walk-in multi-jet spa shower. Upstairs are the 2 other double bedrooms, with a king-size double bed each and a separate WC. 
 
The garden is large and separated in 2 parts: a front garden with a sunny courtyard (ideal for breakfast and lunch) and a back garden which catches the evening sun by the BBQ. From the garden you can see Bellenaves’ two landmarks: the château to which the cottage used to belong, and the 12th century church.  
 
The overall impression is of a very romantic, ancient, beautifully restored and comfortable cottage. It fits 6 people and provides sufficient space and privacy for 3 couples or 2 families. The cottage has TV (satellite dish) and broad band ADSL internet connection available.

Since the cottage has a fantastic vaulted cellar, we have filled it with local wines available at cost price. The luxurious bathroom is perfect for some holiday pampering with the combination of a roll-tup bathtub (complete with lions' feet!) and a walk-in spa shower. The foodies will be delighted to know there is a BBQ in the back garden and a well-equipped kitchen since we are keen cooks ourselves.

There are a host of outdoor activities in the immediate vicinity, our favourite ones being the lovely hikes in the river 'gorges' and the forests, and the yonger family members never fail to go kayaking in the summer.  
 
However, it is worth venturing one hour South to the 'Parc Regional des Volcans d'Auvergne' where 80 (extinct!) volcanoes are located, as pearls on a string. They can be seen either on foot, by hiking, or from the air in a hot-air balloon! 
 
If that's sounds much too active, Vichy is the nearest spa town and we recommend a pampering day there. And ... well, there really is so much to see, do, taste and try around here that it's easier to tell us what you like and we can help you find just the ticket!

Rental periods are from Saturday noon to Saturday morning. For reservations to become effective, a deposit of 25% of price is required (fully refundable at departure). Full rates are payable upon arrival. Cash or cheques only.
