Situated near the Fr/Spanish border, in the little hamlet of Loubieng, the house is an ideal base to enjoy an area rich in leisure and cultural activities of two countries, under the sun of the “other South of France”. (Pau - Ryanair 30 mins, Biarritz - Ryanair/Easyjet 45 mins.) 
 
This 18c traditional farmhouse looks most inviting with its steeply raked, tiled, roof, wooden window shutters and partially ivy-clad facade. Downstairs the exposed wood ceiling beams and large, wood burning fireplace bring real French character to the comfortable, open-plan living accommodation, with the added bonus of a second sitting room upstairs. The downstairs double bedroom with ensuite shower has its own access to the garden. There is also central heating for our winter ski enthusiasts.  
 
Outside the old farmhouse, the terrace takes full advantage of the rural vista. The garden, well stocked with established nut, fruit and palm trees, slopes to the impressive, secluded and enclosed pool area,(8 x 5 and 1.1 – 1.4m depth); open May-September, where you can peacefully acquire a tan. If you're a keen swimmer, keep fit by swimming against the jet current, or, instead, relax in the jacuzzi, watching the swallows, for whom the house is named, swoop in the brilliant blue sky above.  
 
The terrace is ideal for enjoying meals from the BBQ, while looking out over the fields of the river Laa valley. The road between Orthez and the bastide town of Navarrenx, is conveniently located over the corn fields from the house. Take a stroll up the hill opposite and, heat haze permitting, you will see the magnificent Pyrenees, with their increasingly popular ski slopes, (approx 1 1/4 hr drive) in the distance.  
 
Behind the barn, a flat area allows games of croquet and petanque and the house is stocked with children’s videos and board games and a small library (English), for the adults. In the games room/laundry there is a small table tennis/football table and more games, garden and pool furniture.  
 
Visit the pretty and historic market town of Orthez (7 km), with its cafes, restaurants and leisure lake with beach for swimming and water skiing, or the other charming villages and spa towns of the area. The ritzy town of Biarritz with its Casino and famous Atlantic surfing beaches is less than an hour away, as is the city of Bayonne with its shops and museums. Over the border is elegant San Sebastian and, Bilbao, home of the famous Guggenheim Museum. Historic Pau, with its chateau, shops and Europe’s first mainland golf course, is only half an hour’s drive and an even nearer golf course can be found at the pretty, thermal spa town of Salies. To the east lies Lourdes, the well-known pilgrimage site, with yet another golf course and the amazing Grottes de Bertheram.  
 
From the nearby town of Orthez, you can experience France's excellent rail system for day trips to Bordeaux or Toulouse, or even a shorter trip to Pau.

Follow a wine or cheese trail and sample the tasty local cuisine. 
 
The area offers surfing, skiing, water skiing, golfing, tennis, rafting, canoeing, fishing, hill walking, shopping, museums, chateau, galleries, aquarium, cinemas (vo films), ten-pin bowling, casinos, markets, vineyards, cheese trails, spas, fetes.  
 
After all this activity perhaps instead of cooking a meal you would like to take a short walk to our little local restaurant or, you could arrange to have our very helpful house managers prepare a meal for you. (Sample menus and booking are direct with our house managers - English.) 
 
There is so much to do and see, many of our guests find that one visit just isn't enough to sample all the delights of this marvelous, friendly area.

Although the property sleeps 6, it is also possible to add a baby to the number, as there is a travel cot in the twin bed room. There is also a baby gate at the top of the stairs. (A high chair is available plus baby monitor and baby bath). Upstairs: sitting room, double bedroom, twin bedroom with two single beds and travel cot, family bathroom, separate wc. Downstairs: open plan sitting/dining/kitchen, double bedroom with ensuite shower, separate wc. Laundry/Games room in Barn: second fridge, freezer, washing machine/spin dryer, games including small table tennis/football/hockey table, floats for pool, garden and pool furniture, bbq. This property suits all generations. The adults can have their sitting room, with sat TV, DVD and MP3 Player, and small library (English), while the youngsters can play in the upstairs sitting room where they will find board games and children's videos a hifi and a tv/video and dvd player.

The famous surfing beaches of the Atlantic, with their international surfing competitions, are approx 45 mins drive from the house and the ski slopes of the Pyrenees about 1 hr 15 mins in the other. At certain seasons of the year some of our local young, (and not so young), people have been known to go skiing in the morning and surfing in the afternoon! The area is well provided with golf courses including the mainland Europe's first golf course at Pau. 
 
If you don't want to drive far, a leisure beach in Orthez (10 mins drive), should keep the children amused. It has a small cafe bar, water ski instruction and an adventure playground.  
 
Nearby Orthez is a pleasant little market town with cafes, bars, restaurants. This used to be the capital of the region, with ruins to attest to its former glory.  
 
Plus chateax, galleries, museums, wine/cheese trails, river rafting, cycling, spa, casino, shopping, and trips to Spain!
