The villa stands in 1 acre of a secluded garden with beautiful views of the French countryside, its own private swimming pool and small orchard. Set in the gentle countryside of the Lot et Garonne, it is 35 minutes from the historic town of Bergerac and one and a quarter hours from the bustling city of Bordeaux. A brief stroll will take you to Duras, where you will find all the necessary shopping and leasure facilities for your stay.
The villa is a well equiped spacious modern property on one level and is suitable for young families and older family members.There is a large entrance hall furnished with antiques, and this leads into an open plan L-shaped lounge diner which has three sets of French windows opening onto the terrace. This makes it ideal for outdoor dining and the perfect area to enjoy the relaxing beautiful views. There are four good sized bedrooms, two bathrooms(one of which is en suite) and a seperate WC.
The pool is salt water and is enclosed with an unobtrusive security fence to accord with french legal requirements and is therefore safe for children. There is an assortment of fruit including apples, plums, apricots, cherries and peaches growing in the grounds of the property and guests are encouraged to help themselves.
We have a local French custodian for the property who will be available to respond to any emergencies and advise on any problems you may have in the area. There is a tourist office in the village and they can provide a varied selection of any information on most interests.
Outside, there is a charcoal barbecue, plentiful garden furniture including two tables, chairs and sun beds to make your stay as relaxing as possible.

The lounge is comfortably furnished with two three seater sofas, a leather chair,satelite TV showing UK freeview chanels together with a video and DVD player, radio/CD player, toy boxes and a small library of books. The dining area has a wooden pine table with seating for up to eight people leading into a modern kitchen fully fitted with a fridge freezer, eye level electric oven, a gas hob and microwave. The adjoining utility room contains a dishwasher, washing machine, iron and ironing board. A door from the utility room provides access to the orchard and swimming pool,easily seen from the kitchen window. All four bedrooms are fully equiped with sufficient wardrobe and drawer space and have french windows leading onto either terrace or lawn. There are two double bedrooms, one with en suite bath/shower WC, one twin bedded room and a bunk room with a pull out futon at the lower level. There is also a shower/WC room and a seperate WC.
Activities
Duras is a beautiful bastide town with its own chateau, holding cultural and historic events during the summer. There is a local day and night market selling local produce and crafts and a good selection of restaurants,shops,bakeries and two small supermarkets. A larger selection of restaurants and shopping is within easy reach.
Grande Croix is within easy driving distance of the Dordogne valley and the wine chateaux's of St Emillion, Bordeaux, Cahors and Monbazillac.There are a number of vineyards very near the property and visitors are welcome for impromtu wine tasting. Within 20-40 minute drive there are nine/eighteen hole golf courses. There are tennis courts at nearby St Sernin, and there is opportunity for horse riding. The area is ideal for cycling and walking with other activities such as canoing on the River Dordogne, sandy beaches at Arcachon(near Bordeaux) or simply relaxing in the beautiful surroundings of the local area.
