Labarthe Cottage (Gite) is situated in a very quiet and secluded position on a south facing hill side, with beautiful views over the gently rolling hills of Aquitaine in South Western France. The solar heated swimming pool is one of the largest private pools in the area (13.5m x 7 m max), and is set in a large garden. Although very secluded, Labarthe Cottage is only 1 mile from the small town of Duras with its' imposing Chateau, which has a full range of shops, A Carrefore Supermarket, Chemist, Doctors, Dentists, Bars and Restaurants. Although this area is close to the popular Dordogne area, it is generally quieter and restaurant prices a little lower. The Cottage sleeps six in comfort, with one double and two twin bedrooms and two shower rooms. The kitchen area is very well equipped, and the living room has (UK) Satellite TV, Video and CD player. Free WiFi is provided, and if you cannot bring your own computer you can have limited use of ours.

The solar heated [13.5m x 7m max.] swimming pool, is situated in a very quiet position next to the terrace. Sun loungers, deck chairs a sun blind, parasols and other garden furniture are provided, together with a gas barbecue. The property covers 3 acres, so there is plenty of room for everyone!

The house will accommodate six in comfort. It is fully equipped including washing and dish washing machines, microwave, fridge, freezer, coffee percolator satellite TV. and video [takes U.K. tapes and we have a library of over 100 tapes]. We supply bed linen and towels during the high and mid. seasons. At other times these are charged as an extra, or you may bring your own. Please refer to the booking form. A cot and high chair are available, and baby sitting can be arranged.

The quite roads of the area are great for walking and cycling. The local riding stables are very good, especially for children. Canoes can be hired on the Dordogne and Dropt rivers. The fishing is good. Tennis is available locally. We hope to have a boules court ready for the summer. The are a number of good resturants locally, and a good midday meal including wine can be had for 12.50 e.

My wife and I have lived here for nearly 20 years, so it can't be too bad! The area is very beautiful with gently rolling hils, lovely views at ever turning, and quite country lanes. The local village of Duras is 1 mile with all facilities. We have always found the local people to be very kind and welcoming.

This is an agricultural area and not so touristy as some parts of Aquitaine. The main crops are plums and wine grapes. The plums make the most lovely juicy prunes which are used in many ways, most especially being covered in chocolate. Delicious! The grapes for the Duras wine, which is very good. Duras is very close to the Gironde border,. This is where the Bordeaux wine is produced, so Duras wine is very similar to Bordeaux, only less costly

Rental Details in British Pounds. Euros also accepted. WINTER RATES The first week is charged at £200 all others are £150. During the mid. and low seasons there is a 10% discount for parties of four or less. (not Peak and winter) Bed linen and 3 towels pp., gas and electricity are included during the high and mid. seasons. In the low and winter seasons bed linen and towels may be rented for a one off charge of £7.50 pp. per stay, and gas and electricity are charged at cost.
