This part of France has a fascinating history and there are many historical monuments to visit from the Roman villa at Sevillac to the stunning Bastide towns of the Gers and the many romanesque churches and monasteries. The historic cities of Bordeaux and Toulouse offer the visitor sophisticated shops and restaurants, while a little further afield lie the Atlantic coast, Biarritz, Lourdes and the Pyrenees.
This is the heart of gastronomic France and it is impossible not to be tempted by the stunning food markets and the locally produced Armagnac and foie gras.
This area also produces some of France's greatest wines and there are many vineyards, both large and small, worthy of a visit.
